The Rogue Rats of Nitropolis slot is played on an initial 5×5 grid and uses the cluster pays mechanic. However, the grid is actually infinite, it just starts 5×5 in size. Wins are formed by the rat moving around the desert on an infinite game grid collecting vertically or horizontally adjacent payout symbol clusters and activating feature symbols.
The rat will move around in different coloured vehicles and will only collect paying symbols that are the same colour as the vehicle. But with every ‘spin’, the rat will change vehicles as the gas runs out on the previous one. Even though you’ll see a larger grid, the rat can only initially see a 5×5 grid.
Each move will consume fuel in the vehicle the rat is in. Picking up symbols and shooting or collecting feature symbols will award extra fuel, thus keeping the game round going. If you manage to max out the fuel gauge. you’ll get a small boost where the fuel is limitless until you collect another coin. This is known as the Nitro Fuel Boost. When I first loaded the Rogue Rats of Nitropolis slot, I certainly didn’t expect to see a rat riding around in the desert as part of the main action. But I must admit that it is a brilliant idea. Gone are the standard symbols and reel setup you usually associate with slots. Hats off to the developers here. I was expecting to see a similar setup to previous titles in this series but no – the innovation is fantastic and it works really well.
The only thing I would say to begin with is to be patient. It’s not easy to understand at first and you’ll be driving around in your vehicle wondering why you’re not collecting everything that appears on the screen. Once you realise you can only collect the same colour symbols that match your vehicle, the picture becomes a whole lot clearer. Everything starts to make sense after a while and I’m impressed with how everything has been put together.
While this type of gameplay won’t suit everyone, it’s a refreshing change to the norm. It still packs a punch with 25,000 x bet max wins and the bonus features are great.
