Iron Dog Studio hasn’t taken any risks with the Wild West theme here. Honestly, I let out a tut when I saw the two cowboys on the grid as I launched the Cowboy Showdown demo. They don’t flank the grid like I have come to expect.
However, once I got to grips with the dynamics of the 6-shot revolver, the design began to make more sense. I wish the provider did more with the background, though. The arid land with cacti is far too safe.

Land 3 or more Scatter symbols to activate 6 free spins. Regular paying symbols don’t appear on the grid during this round. A Special Prize Coin is added to the bounty, depending on the number of Scatters in the triggering spin:

Sadly, since Scatters can’t appear during this round, you can’t retrigger free spins.
Cowboy Showdown Verdict: Solid Gameplay Centred Around a Hero vs Villain Battle
Whenever Iron Dog Studio takes a break from its usual Hold and Win releases, it comes up with something truly innovative. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of those breaks in the future. Perhaps, with sharper and more eye-catching visuals, as Cowboy Showdown falls a bit short in that department.
On the technical side, the game is solid. I like the 6-Shot Revolver feature in the base game; it’s not something you’ll come across often. It throws in a Collector symbol into the mix after every 6th spin, which collects cash values, fixed jackpots, and adds to the wanted bounty.
The gameplay is wrapped with a potential win of 10,000x the bet, way higher than what we typically see from the provider. But with no multipliers and a max cash prize of 9x, achieving the top reward looks far-fetched.
