Colt Lightning is a reskinning of Beasts of Fire, so the main mechanisms work in the same way. To form a winning combination you must land 3 or more matching symbols on successive reels, starting at reel 1. In the base game, however, 2 Colt symbols will also result in a payout, as will 2 Super Colt symbols in the free spins round.

It’s hard to read the slot name, Colt Lightning without thinking of John Travolta’s classic song, but that’s where the similarities end. Instead, this slot is set on wild plains somewhere in North America. In the background we can see cacti, canyons and shrubs – the perfect place for our stallion protagonist to roam free.
As the story goes, the horse has been struck by lightning and now possess superpowers and tons of luck. As such, the Colt is the slot’s highest paying symbol in the base game, rewarding you with 6 x your bet for a 5 of a kind combination. The Super Colt also pays up to 12 x your bet, but this supernatural version of the horse is only available in the Free Spins round.

Super Colt Free Spins Feature
Land 3 Orb scatter symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 and you will trigger the Super Colt Spins feature. To start, you receive 10 free spins. All Colt symbols are removed from the reels, and replaced by Super Colt symbols, which are worth twice as much.
Whilst you cannot trigger Colt Strikes during free spins, the Horseshoe scatters can still land to expand the reels. Any expanded reels stay in place till the end of your free spins, and each reel can again expand up to 3 extra positions, giving you more ways to win.
Finally, you can retrigger the Free Spins feature by landing 3 more scatters on the reels. This gives you an extra 10 free spins, and this can continue up to 10 times. In theory, then, you could claim 100 free spins.
Colt Lightning Review Summary – an entertaining reskin, but a reskin nonetheless
Let’s start with the positives. The Colt Lightning slot is visually stunning, and the theme is well executed. The gameplay is simple yet rewarding, and the reel expansions offer you extra ways to win. The promise of max wins of 25,000 x your stake is certainly appealing too and, so long as the Super Colt symbol falls on an expanded layout during free spins, big wins are definitely possible.
So, what’s our problem? We’re underwhelmed because Colt Lightning is just a reskin of Beasts of Fire. There’s no extra features and the stats haven’t changed (96.24% RTP, 7/10 volatility). Aside from a change of setting, the design doesn’t offer anything new either. Even the royal symbols look similar.
The Colt Lightning slot is a well made reskin and there’s nothing much wrong with it. We gave the original game 4/5 stars, and we’re inclined to do the same here. It’s a solid and entertaining game with a good mix of features and the potential for bigs wins.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it seems to be Play’n GO’s motto. It’s not the most exciting rule to live by, but maybe you’ll share their sentiments. If you love the original, give this version a spin for a change of scene.
