The theme in the Avalon Gold slot game is all around Arthurian Mythology. Avalon is a mythical island that first appeared in the1136 Historia Regum Britanniae as a place of magic where King Arthur’s sword Excalibur was made.
The reels are set in an ancient ruin, with an eerie feel to the surroundings. The soundtrack is Celtic-like, and it is quite reflective. It’s intense, but the mellow sounds of the instruments give it a nice feel. Overall, the visuals and the audio are pretty good here and not over the top. Everything ties into the theme well.
On the reels, the A-J Royals are the lower-paying symbols, with symbols of birds, snakes, wolves, and deer acting as the medium-paying symbols. Avalanche feature
When a winner lands, those symbols are removed from the reels and new ones fall into the empty positions. When this happens, an extra row is added, and this continues until it hits a maximum of 8 rows in height. In the base game, once no new winner lands, the row height resets back to 4.

Big Symbols
Big symbols can appear as normal symbols or as Mystery Boxes and they land in 2×2, 3×3, or 4×4 sizes. If there are any empty spaces below the big symbols, they’re filled with the same symbol type as that big symbol.
Expanding Wilds
You will notice that some symbols will land with a gold frame on top of them. If there are spaces above these symbols, the gaps will be filled with Expanding Wilds expanding upwards.
Mystery Boxes feature
These can appear anywhere on the reels. If there are 5 or more of them on the reels, it will activate the Mystery Boxes feature and will either reveal a payout, or a Wild or trigger the Avalon features.
If the Mystery Box reveals a payout or a Wild symbol that leads to a win, a new chain of Avalanches will begin. All Mystery Boxes will then go back to a blocking state. Mystery Boxes will activate again once there are more winners from the Avalanches.
If the Mystery Boxes reveal the Avalon features, it’ll either be a Coin Win or a feature. Here are the features that could land for you:
- Coin Win – The value of this Coin Win symbol is multiplied by the placed bet.
- Multiplier – This multiplies all of the revealed coin values.
- +1 Swiper – If there is a Coin Win symbol or an already revealed Collect feature that has a value of 5x that was revealed before this +1 Swiper, it turns into 15x. It essentially sticks as 1 before the value.
- Collect – Collect all coin values from the revealed Mystery Boxes. All opened Mystery Boxes are then reactivated to reveal new coin wins or features.
- Redrop – Awards a new symbol drop and guaranteed reactivation of the Mystery Boxes currently on the reels. This feature executes when all other Mystery Box features have been played through.
Free Drops feature
3 or more Bonus symbols will trigger the Free Drops feature. Here’s how many Free Drops you can get initially based on the number of Bonus symbols that trigger the feature for you:

Overall, the Avalon Gold slot is a solid addition to the Gold series of games from ELK Studios that will appeal to many. The 50,000 x stake max wins alone make for an eye-catching slot. The RTP rate is the only thing that lets it down being at 94%, but it’s the price we, unfortunately, have to pay here for huge max win potential.
