The design in Totem Lightning is superb – the Native American-style lower value A to 10 playing card symbols are joined by 4 animal-style carved totems. The most rewarding of these is the bird totem – land 3, 4 or 5 of these on a payline and you’ll win 88, 388 or 888 coins.
Totem Lightning is played using a slightly unusual game engine – after every winning spin, the successful A to 10 symbols are removed from the reels, along with all other instances of that symbol elsewhere on the reels. For example, if you have a winning combination made up of K symbols, they are removed. All other K symbols on the reels are removed too.
New symbols are dropped into their place – if a new winning combination is created, they too are removed. These removals continue until you have a winless spin or all of the lower value symbols are removed and you’re spinning with just the high value totems in play. Keep track of what’s been removed via the meter to the right of the reels. Totem Lightning also comes with a pair of bonus features:
Lightning Strike feature – bolts of lightning can strike the reels on any spin and remove 1 of the lower value A to 10 symbols.

We didn’t have particularly high expectations when it came to Totem Lightning but it proved to be a pleasant surprise. The design is excellent, combining quality imagery with a drum heavy backing track which is an ideal fit for the theme.
The tumbling reels game engine provides plenty of base game action meaning we didn’t really miss the lack of free spins. We enjoyed the best success with the Totem Multiplier though, winning 250 times our total stake after a making good progress up the totem pole.
Totem Lightning is a surprisingly entertaining slot. Combining high spec visuals with a nice range of features, this Native American-themed slot is well worth closer investigation. If you like the theme, Thunderkick’s Turning Totems is recommended.
