As a revamped version of a land-based slot, the Texas Tea slot is played across a traditional layout of 5 reels, 3 rows and 9 paylines. Wins are created in the conventional way too, simply land 2 or more matching symbols along a payline, starting from the left (reel 1). The only time this is different is with the Texas Tea logo symbol, which pays out even if you only land 1 symbol

You can play Texas Tea for as little as 9p, up to £270 per spin. Adjusting your stake is easy, simply click the + and – buttons below the reels. Alternatively, click the’Total Bet Amount’ to bring up a menu of 16 preset options.

This version of the slot has an RTP rate of 96.2%, which is above the average for online slots. That said, this is lower than it once was (when Texas Tea first launched at online casinos, it offered a RTP rate of 97.3%), though this is somewhat understandable when compared with other IGT slots.

Texas Tea also offers max wins of 10,000 x your stake and a low volatility. As such, expect frequent smaller wins which allow for longer playing sessions and plenty of chances to trigger bonus features.

Theme – Take a trip down South

As the name suggests, Texas Tea is set in Texas – duh. It revolves around Texas Ted and quest to strike oil in the Southern state. Given Ted’s old timey dress sense, we can assume the slot takes place during the Texas oil boom, a period in the early 20th century which began with the discovery of a large petrol reserve.

The reels hang against a canyon and lower paying symbols are represented by cacti and various types of flowers. High value symbols include a car, a bull, an aeroplane and an armadillo. The slot’s highest paying symbol is the Texas Tea logo, rewarding you with 10,000 x your stake for a five of a kind combination.

Texas Tea also comes complete with a Texas Ted scatter symbol and an oil derrick Bonus symbol. These both trigger seperate bonus features which we’ll talk more about later.

Big Oil Bonus Feature

The Big Oil Bonus feature activates when you land 3 or more Oil Derrick symbols along a payline, starting from reel 1. You’re then transported to a new screen and given the opportunity to try your hand at pumping that black gold.

Choose various locations across Texas to win cash prizes. The number of locations you can choose is equal to how many bonus symbols triggered the round; 3 Oil Derricks in the base game gives you 3 location selections and so on. This also determines the range of prizes on offer.

3 bonus symbols gives you between 5 and 100 coins per Oil Derrick, 4 will give you between 5 and 200 coins per Oil Derrick and 5 will reward you with between 5 and 495 coins per Oil Derrick. If you’re lucky, you can win up to 945 coins with this feature.

Texas Tea Summary – Does this land-based classic hold up?

To start with, we have to say we understand that the Texas Tea slot is a popular land-based game and there’s a reason for that. Its low volatility means wins come often and whilst the gameplay seems basic it can actually be quite lucrative.

Though the Big Oil Bonus is the most unique part of the game, the key to winning big is simply landing 5 Texas Tea logo symbols. This gives you the slot’s max win of 10,000 x stake, though the 100 x multiplier in the Oil Dividend Bonus feature isn’t too shabby either.

The problem is that we’re not sure it stands up when compared to other online titles. Even with a revamp the graphics look dated and the game doesn’t offer any free spins. Consider the bonus features available in other low volatility slots like Starburst and there’s a lot left to be desired.

Overall, we’re sure you’ll enjoy Texas Tea if you’ve got a soft-spot for the original machine, but we’d prefer something a little more exciting.
