Wild Scarab Respins

Whenever the wild symbol lands, it adds a multiplier of up to 200x. Multiple wilds as part of a win will add the multiplier value together. After calculating any potential wins, the wilds award a respin with them locked in place. If any wins land, they are also calculated and paid. If another wild lands, it’s also locked in place, and another respin is awarded. This continues until no new wilds land.

There are also Firestorm and Sandstorm modifiers that can trigger at random during the respins. The Firestorm increases all wild multipliers by a random amount, up to a maximum of 999x. The Sandstorm moves all wilds 1 space to the left, with the first reel wilds staying in position. Only 1 of these features can trigger per respin.

Free Spins

3 scatters award 8 Desert Fury Free Spins. It’s the same as the base game, but with an increased chance of wild symbols landing. If you land 2 or 3 scatters, it awards 2 or 4 extra spins.

4 scatters awards 10 Storming Sphinx Free Spins. It removes the wild respins, but locks all wilds in place for the rest of the round when they land. The Firestorm and Sandstorm features can trigger on any spin. Just like in the previous bonus round, 2 or 3 scatters add 2 or 4 extra spins.

I enjoyed playing Sand and Ashes™. The whole time I was playing it, I enjoyed what it offered. I just felt like the paylines are a big letdown for the gameplay. Even though the volatility is set at medium, the low number of paylines makes it feel much more volatile. It can be frustrating, especially if you land a wild with a high multiplier and it doesn’t create a winning line.

It’s not a huge issue, though. The bonus rounds really make up for it, especially the Storming Sphinx Free Spins, as the wilds lock in place the whole time. While it’s not quite at the level of the very best games, this is still an enjoyable new release that’s well worth trying out.
