Mutating, Godzilla-style creatures are on the loose in Rampage Riches, a monster-themed slot powered by Odobo. This 5 reel, 20 payline adventure comes with exploding wilds, a battle style bonus feature and a free spins feature. If a slot is powered by Odobo, you can usually be assured that it will look and sound great – that’s the case here. The reels are set against a cartoon-style cityscape backdrop and include playing cards, mutant monster eggs, paw prints, scratches and a monster eye symbol. Land the radioactive wild on reel 3 and it can explode into life and turn between 2 and 5 other symbols wilds.

There are also 2 scatter symbols – land the free spins symbol on reels 2, 3 and 4 and you’ll trigger the Free Spins feature and be awarded 5 free spins. Extra wilds symbols are added to reels 1, 2 and 3. You can re-trigger more free spins here too if the free spin scatters land again.

The Bonus scatter (the multi-headed King Gemna monster) only appears on the odd numbered reels (reels 1, 3 and 5) – land 3 of them and you’ll activate the Rampage Bonus feature. Here you get to pick 1 of the 5 monsters – the aforementioned King Gemna, Giga Shell, Allirog, Tyranazoid or Chronos. Your chosen beast will then take part in a series of battles – the more battles he wins, the bigger the cash prizes that are on offer.

The cartoon graphics owe more than hint to classic Japanese creature feature style movies. The action plays out to a brooding soundtrack, complete with thunking footsteps and blaring car horns – it all comes together rather well.

The features aren’t bad either when you do hit them – that was our biggest problem with Rampage Riches, trying to land the features. We went through lengthy barren spells getting tantalisingly close but often just missing out on triggering them. That said, there are some decent rewards on offer when you do eventually get in, especially via the free spins round where the added wilds can have a big impact. We found the variance to be on the high side of medium.

The monster theme is a popular one with slots developers – Rampage Riches certainly looks and sounds the part. A slight shame then that the monsters didn’t maraud onto the reels quite as often as we’d have liked. That apart, this is certainly a playable slot and worth a look if you’re a fan of the big beast or action movie genre. I also recommend Play ‘N Go’s Rage to Riches which has a similar theme.
