The fruit-themed In the Zone sticks to a pretty classic setup, with the reels built right into an old-school slot machine. As expected, the audio is very simple. And, while it can get repetitive pretty fast, I do like that they added old mechanical sound effects—one for the spin, another for the win.

In the Zone Mobile Slot

While this slot might not be one of the best payout slots, it plays really well on mobile casinos. The In the Zone mobile slot is visually sharp, and all sound effects come through with the greatest clarity. I also thought the controls were highly responsive.

Multipliers

A multiplier can randomly land on any non-scatter symbol during any regular spin. When that happens, it boosts the value of any win that includes that symbol in that exact spot.

Respin

If the first 2 reels land matching symbols but don’t form a win, the third reel gets a respin. Any multipliers on the locked reels stay in place and still apply if the respin lands a winning combo.

Nudging Wilds

When a wild symbol appears, the affected reel moves down one row. And every time it moves (after each spin), you get a free respin. This keeps happening until the wild completely slides off the bottom of the reel.

Linked Spin

Linked Spin means that 2 or 3 reels will lock together and spin as one. When they stop, they’ll land on the exact same set of symbols and, therefore, give you a better shot at lining up a win.

The In the Zone features are pretty simple, but when you factor in the nudging wilds, respins, climbing multipliers, and how smooth it runs on mobile, it actually has more going on than you’d think for a three-reel slot.

Pros

• The mobile version is very responsive and easy to use
• Multipliers can land on any symbol and stick during features
• Sound design stays true to physical machines

Cons

• 94% RTP is lower than average
• No option to set loss or win limits in autoplay mode
• 2,500x Max Win is rather low

Coming in, I didn’t think I’d enjoy the In the Zone slot as much as I did, just based on how simple it looked at first glance. However, it goes beyond its retro-style 3-reel roots with little details like multipliers that stick around during features. Then there’s the respin mechanic, and the nudging wilds were another surprise. I figured they’d just substitute for symbols like usual, but the way they slide down one row at a time while triggering free respins adds a lot more to the pace than I anticipated.

That said, 94% isn’t exactly generous. However, if you appreciate smart mechanics in a compact setup, then I’d say In the Zone actually delivers more than it lets on.
