ELK Studios has taken an interesting approach with Ice Wolf, but it is one that may not appeal to everyone. The symbols on the reels look okay, but they’re very dated. They look like they’re from a slot from the late 2000s, which makes gameplay feel extremely old. The symbols are relatively colourful, combining ruby red with emerald green and gold, but they have a faded design and matte finish. It’s not a major issue, though, as the faded colours match the frozen arctic wilderness theme. 

The sounds at Ice Wolf casinos are excellent. An epic tune plays throughout, really helping to create a fantasy atmosphere. It’s the best part of the theme, and makes up for the lacklustre visuals.

Whenever you land a win, it breaks the ice of the next layer of ice above the row of all winning symbols. You then get a respin with the new symbols open, increasing the total paylines. The broken ice and respins continue for every subsequent win you get. If you don’t create a win, it resets the reels. However, if you break through the ice all the way to the top row, three special symbols can impact your wins:

Ice Wolf is a slot that could be a lot better. The visuals are dated, which will put off some players. However, the main issue is the maximum win. At just 2,500x the stake, it’s not enough for a high volatility game. 

It’s a shame, as the gameplay is quite fun. I enjoyed landing respins on every win, offering a similar experience to cascading reels. And the special reel at the top can really improve your payouts. The high volatility makes it hard to land these features, which—with just 2,500x available—is part of the frustration. Overall, there’s not enough here to make it a must-play game.
