Avalanche feature
When a winning cluster is created, the Avalanche feature comes into play. Each symbol of a winning cluster is removed from the grid and a point is added to the Snake Progress Meter. The remaining symbols drop down and new symbols drop in to fill the empty positions. The process carries on repeating itself until no more new winning clusters are formed. By the way, this a common feature amongst grid slots.
Snake feature
When a winning cluster is formed, the winning symbols add progress to the Snake Progress Meter. With 4 levels, activating any of the levels will release snakes onto the grid. Here’s what you will get in the Snake feature:

A snake is a linear cluster of symbols that moves along the grid for each drop/spin. The first symbol the snake moves over becomes the Snake symbol (this is indicated on the snake’s head).
The snake’s length is at least 5 symbols long and has a head and body. The symbols are indicated by a golden frame. These symbols can be in a survival or non-survival state indicated with a yellow or blue tail that isn’t part of the snake. Anyway, the snake will always for a winning cluster or be part of a larger winning cluster.
If a snake moves over the same symbol as the Snake symbol, the snake eats the symbol and grows in length by an extra symbol. This extra symbol goes into survival state (yellow tail). It then remains on the grid for the next avalanche/spin.
When the snake doesn’t move over a Snake symbol to eat, it dies and is removed from the grid before the next spin. If a snake crosses and bites its own snake body, it will die and be removed from the grid. Think of the classic retro Snake game that was found on Nokia phones in the 90s.
Crossing feature
If a snake moves across another snake, the Crossing feature comes into play. The snakes then create a 2x wild multiplier in this position. Any more snakes moving across the Multiplier Wild will double the multiplier to 4x, 8x etc.
Finally, several multiplier wilds in different positions that are part of a winning cluster will see the multiplier values multiplied by each other.
X-iter feature
As with all ELK Studios slots these days, there is an X-iter feature. With 5 modes available, the options costs between 2 and 500 x your total stake. This isn’t available in the UK though.

Coba Review Summary – a grid slot with a slithering twist
The Coba slot is something of a new direction for a grid slot. Superbly designed, the blocky visuals work really well with the Cluster Pays mechanic. The Mayan theme has been widely used by slot providers but ELK Studios have nailed it in my opinion.
It’s all about filling the Snake Progress Meter when then brings snakes into play. Growing the snake length is key as this increases your chances of triggering the Crossing feature and adding multiplier wilds into the mix. Once you get to Levels 3 and 4, the significant number of snakes in play can lead to a whole grid of winning symbols and Multiplier Wilds. These can then multiply by each other for huge wins of up to 25,000 x bet per spin.
The only downside is the lack of free spins but there’s enough going on with the snakes and Multiplier Wilds to make the gameplay exciting. I would recommend playing the Coba demo above as it feels more complicated than it actually is. Just remember that snakes create clusters and multiplier wilds.
