ClusterBuck™ slot has a solid 6×6 gaming area, but unlike regular online slots with fixed paylines, it uses the Cluster Pays mechanic. Winners are formed by connecting 5 or more matching symbols vertically or horizontally on the reels. However, payouts aren’t awarded until you fill the Cluster Bars with winning symbols from cascades on the same spin, unlocking new tiers.

I like the funky soundtrack. I won’t say it is a perfect match for the theme, but it does the job. However, it might feel repetitive after some time, so don’t feel guilty for hitting the mute button.

ClusterBuck™ Mobile Slot
I had a great time playing the ClusterBuck™ mobile slot, and didn’t spot much difference from the desktop view. It fits well on smaller screens, retaining the colourful fruit design and cluster-style gameplay.
The controls are also responsive in both landscape and portrait mode at mobile casinos. I enjoyed the latter better, though. The jackpots and Cluster Bars sit over the reels, and the grid looks bolder.

Cluster Chase™
As you must have clocked, every winning cluster activates a Cascading reel, which removes winning symbols and replaces them with new ones. As a result, multiple wins can form on a single spin.
A double symbol counts as 2 symbols. Similarly, a quad symbol counts as 4 symbols.
Cluster Bar
Every paying symbol has a Cluster Bar by the side of the grid, which displays the number of symbols left to unlock the next tier. Winning symbols from cascades on the same spin fill up the bar. Here is how it works:

Whenever you fill up a bar, a Wild is thrown on a random position on the reels to help form more clusters. Unfortunately, the meter resets when new clusters cannot be formed, regardless of your current tier. This left me dazed during my ClusterBuck™ review—it felt as if my efforts were futile.
You should also note that the bar progress is saved per bet level, so adjusting your stake will inevitably reset the meter.
Padlock Symbol
The Padlock symbol locks a random Cluster Bar for a spin, holding it from resetting with the other bars. You can collect up to 3 Padlock symbols in the base game, while it caps at 6 during free spins. The good part is that Padlocks that appear during free spins can be carried into the base game.
However, keep in mind that Padlocks only apply to Cluster Bars with progress.
Bombs
Bomb and Bomb Wild symbols can randomly appear on the reels, exploding in up to 4 directions, horizontally and vertically. The exploded symbols from the Bomb are replaced by matching symbols, which then create a cluster. On the other hand, Wild Bomb replaces exploded symbols with Wilds.
In addition, the Bomb symbols replace doubles for doubles and quads for quads.
Chest Bonus
Chest symbols that land are collected in the Big Chest by the reel. Whenever a Chest appears, the Big Chest may throw a Chest symbol on the reels, making a total of 2 Chest symbols. This triggers the Chest bonus, where the Chests reveal either a Wild or a Jackpot.
If a Wild is revealed, 2–6 Wilds are thrown in random positions on the reels, helping to form clusters. In contrast, revealing 2 Jackpots awards the Jackpot bonus.
Jackpot Bonus
The Jackpot wheel spins, awarding 1 of the 4 available jackpots, and they are:
- Mini: 20x the bet
- Minor: 50x the bet

Northern Lights Gaming has ditched familiar cliches you’d probably expect from this classic theme and gone for a more modern style. It looks clean and polished. The colour palette isn’t too loud to put you off or too dim that it feels basic.
On the technical side, ClusterBuck™ stacks up well, too. The Cluster Bar mechanic isn’t something we see all the time, so it brings a fresh wave of excitement. It also comes with interesting modifiers and fixed jackpots to keep things rolling.
However, losing the tier progress at the end of cascading wins doesn’t sit well with me. There is a limit to how lucky you can get on a spin; in fact, I couldn’t go further than the fifth tier. After all the hassle, you’ll be kicked back to tier 1.
