I spotted a 5×7 set of reels in the Catemple slot game. It’s a unique layout, which makes sense due to its game mechanics. Instead of paylines, it uses scatter pays. As a result, the wins can be created anywhere. It’s similar to Megaways slots in that there are many ways to win. You need at least 7 symbols anywhere on the reels to create a win, which I thought was a lot when playing the free slots version.
You can wager between 20p and £100 in the Catemple slot. It’s a standard amount that provides for all forms of players, from low to high budgets. The stake controls are on the left, and the spin button is on the right. I wasn’t too keen on this while researching for my Catemple review, as I’d prefer them closer to each other. How the Collect Zone Works
Mystery symbols can land on the reels, but they don’t always need to land in the Collect Zone to trigger. They can reveal golden symbols, which require a landing in the Collect Zone.
However, if they reveal a Wild, Hot Wild, or Paw Strike, they can land anywhere. The Paw Strike removes all non-golden symbols from the reels, and the Hot Wild spreads between one and three Wilds to the reels, potentially adding more Hot Wilds, which in turn spread.
Free Drops
Whenever you land a bonus scatter in the Collect Zone, it awards you three Free Drops. Every extra bonus you collect when triggering the round awards two extra drops, up to a maximum of nine. It increases the Collect Zone to two rows, and the multiplier is persistent throughout the round.
If a drop doesn’t award a win, it doesn’t use up any of your Free Drops and increases the multiplier by one. Whenever you collect a bonus symbol during the round, it adds an extra drop to your total.
Super Free Drops
If you collect a Super Bonus symbol, you will also receive three Super Free Drops. It’s the same as the standard Free Drops, but it increases the size of the Collect Zone to three

Catemple Verdict: Enjoyable but Needs Better Maths
I enjoyed playing Catemple, but the maths holds it back. The 94% RTP is another issue, as it’s below the average for the market. Although there’s a 10,000x the stake maximum win, you’re unlikely to get close to it. It’s not all negative, though. The gameplay is genuinely good. Even though it feels volatile, the cascades and multipliers are fantastic. I like the Collect Zone, too. It’s something new and adds some innovation to the game.
The underlying maths model stops me from giving this a higher score. It’s a good game, and it’s fun to play. But, the slight issues with the RTP and variance mean I can only give it 4.3/5.
