As you can probably tell by now, Astronaut is a unique slot with an innovative design. Thematically it is, of course, based around space. The game hangs against a galaxy background, complete with stars, meteors, and nebulas.
The game layout seems to be set inside a spaceship. Presumably, as an Astronaut it is your job to collect the all-important space crystals, of which there are three. These don’t work like traditional slot symbols, though the Green crystal symbols are the ones to look out for. These help you to progress to bigger prizes.
There are no wilds in this game but the Gold shield acts like a bonus symbol. It protects you from losses. We’ll talk about this more in the next section of the review.

Astronaut comes with just 1 main bonus feature, the Golden Shield. That said, there’s other unique elements to unpack too, so let’s get started.
Golden Shield Feature
As mentioned earlier, you must land green crystals to progress through the game. Landing a red crystal takes you back to Level 1, unless you are protected by a Golden Shield.
If you land a Golden Shield, the game will spin automatically. This means you no longer can choose to bank or walk away. This is because you now have protection and cannot lose a prize.
This continues until a red crystal lands which breaks the shield. At this point, you do not lose your prize, but instead go into Advanced mode. Prizes in Advanced Mode are increased, but you no longer have protection.
Prize Levels Feature
Astronaut comes with two columns to the sides of the reel, each displaying prize level values. There are 20 prize levels in total and you can progress through the levels by collecting Green crystals.

Astronaut – unique game with big wins
Firstly, Astronaut is a good looking game and it definitely boasts unique features. Whilst slots purists may not even recognise this is as a slot game, we quite liked that it pushes for an innovative new take.
When it comes to gameplay, the most notable characteristic of the game is that it requires you to keep playing and progressing through levels for a chance to win those 48,000 x max wins. You can’t simply spin and land a supreme symbol combination to boost your bankroll.
The game will obviously appeal to a certain type of player. To have the courage to keep going for higher levels will take an awful lot of strength, or stupidity, depending on how you look at it. That said, with low max stakes, it’s as suitable for budget players as it is for high rollers.
