The Sugar Rush slot is played on a 7×7 grid and uses the Tumble feature. This means that winning symbols disappear once a winning combination is paid, making way for new ones from above once the remaining symbols have fallen to the bottom of the screen. This continues until no new winners are formed.

Theme – sugar overload

The theme in the Sugar Rush slot game is quite obvious from the title. There are so many sweets on the reels that it’ll give you a sugar rush just looking at them. You’ll also notice plenty of candy and lollipops in the background. Think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and multiply that by 10. If you love sweets, you’re in heaven here.

I like the visuals. The bright sweets on the reels and the colourful background make it look almost magical and Pragmatic has done a good job with how the symbols disappear and the wrappers appear from behind to bring multipliers to the positions. It works very well.

In terms of the soundtrack, you never really know what to expect with a game like this. It’s very upbeat and again, magical like with the high-pitched sounds. But what I would say is that the audio is quite repetitive, so I wouldn’t blame you if you were reaching for the mute button after a while. There’s more of a tolerable party atmosphere though once you land the Free Spins feature.

On the reels, you’ve got 3 different coloured gummy bears, a green star, a pink jelly bean, an orange heart and the head of a lollipop. The pink lollipop head is the most lucrative symbol, paying up to 150 x your stake for 15+ in combination.

There’s no Wild in the game. Instead, there are wrappers that bring multipliers to the reels. More on that in a moment.

Multiplier Spots feature

When a winning symbol explodes, it will make a mark in that position on the grid. If a symbol explodes again in the same position, a multiplier is added to the spot, starting from 2x and doubling each time another symbol explodes in the same place. This can keep going until the maximum multiplier of 128x is reached. All marked spots will stay until the end of the tumbling sequence.

The Sugar Rush slot is really easy to get the hang of and the bonus features are all pretty simple to understand. There’s nothing innovative here and we’ve seen it all before with Pragmatic, albeit with a different theme.

The visuals are solid and the way the symbols disappear from the grid during the tumbling sequence adds to the overall appeal. It will certainly attract players who enjoy sweets and candy type slots as well as ones with a solid Free spins feature. But beyond this, it’s pretty basic and nothing has really blown me away here.

The above-average RTP certainly helps counteract the super high volatility and the 5,000 x max win figure isn’t too bad either. Overall, a pretty good slot from Pragmatic but I’m disappointed not to see anything out of the ordinary. Pragmatic Play has since created a clone in Guarana Eyes of the Amazon which features cute and quirky plant characters.

If you’re looking for more action with candy, I would highly recommend Pragmatic Play’s Sweet Bonanza. Although Sugar Rush is newer, Sweet Bonanza comes with a better max win of 21,175 x bet and lower volatility.

Alternatively, Big Time Gaming’s Chocolates and Donuts are both well worth considering with huge max win potential of 65,536 x and 40,000 x bet respectively.
