On the reels, you will see gothic-style A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 royals. The higher-value symbols are represented by dead music stars which include Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Lemmy (Motörhead’s main man) and Elvis Presley. The Crypt Bonus Features

The Crypt slot has 6 bonus features. Cascading reels lead to consecutive wins and xNudge Wilds expand and increase the multiplier to give you multiplier wild reels on up to 4 middle reels. xWays symbols increase the number of ways to win up to 46,656. In the Resurrection Spins, you’ll see xWays symbols on each free spin/cascade. Every 4^th cascade/win, 1 of the high-value dead music legends will become wild as well as extra free spins. Wins involving Elvis will see his multiplier increase by 1 each time.

Cascading Reels feature

When you land 3 or more matching symbols from left to right, starting from reel 1, on successive reels, the Cascading Reels feature comes into play. Winning symbols vanish from the reels with the empty spaces allowing new symbols to drop in. This may result in another winning combination/cascade with the process repeating itself until no more new wins are formed.

xNudge Wild feature

When a skeleton xNudge Wild symbol lands on reels 2, 3, 4 and/or 5, it drops down to the bottom position of the reel. With each drop, the payout multiplier increases by 1. The xNudge Wild also expands to cover the entire reel.

Essentially, you’ll benefit from a Multiplier Wild Reel. Finally, the skeleton xNudge Wild substitutes for all paying symbols. With xNudge Wilds appearing on the 4 middle reels, you could have up to 4 Multiplier Wild Reels in play. If more than 1 lands, the multiplier values are added together and then applied to any winning combinations involving them.

xWays feature

Then you have the mystery xWays symbol which can land on the reels. xWays symbols contain 2 to 3 of the same symbol inside which expand the reels. Landing on all 6 reels, xWays symbols can expand a reel up to 6 symbols high.

If multiple xWays symbols land during a spin, you’ll benefit from many more ways to win. For example, an xWays symbol on all 6 reels could result in 46,656 ways to win (6 x 6 x 6 x 6 x 6 x 6 = 46,656). The number of ways to win appears in the top right-hand corner above the reels.

Importantly, xWays and xNudge Wilds can land on the same spin. If you have 6 symbols per reel with the xWays symbol, the xNudge Wild can give you a Multiplier Wild Reel of 6x. If xNudge Wilds appear on all 4 reels with 6 symbols each, you’ll benefit from a 24x multiplier overall).

Resurrection Spins feature

The Crypt slot comes with a Resurrection Spins feature. It’s activated by landing 3 or more Full Moon Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. 3 Scatters will result in 10 free spins with every extra Scatter giving you 3 additional free spins (i.e. 6 Scatters = 19 free spins).

Once you’re in, you are guaranteed a minimum of 1 xWays symbol on each initial cascade. This means more ways to win. Furthermore, every 4^th winning cascade will turn 1 of the 5 dead music legends into a Wild symbol for the rest of the feature. On top of this, 2 additional free spins will be awarded.

Also, any winning combination involving the highest-paying Elvis Presley symbol will award a +1x multiplier on Elvis. Winning cascades on Elvis will not count for turning music legends into Wilds but only the multiplier increase.

As with many other Nolimit City games, there is an xBet feature. Costing 3 x your total bet per spin, it increases your chances of triggering the Resurrection Spins feature by 5 times. If you do opt for this feature, the RTP rate goes down slightly to 96% (for the 96.05% RTP version).

The Crypt Review Summary: reskinned and improved version of Dragon Tribe

Visually, The Crypt slot is superb. Based on skeleton/zombie versions of dead music legends is something only Nolimit City would do. I have to take my hat off to them, again, for coming up with something original and fresh. There are many horror/death-inspired slots (check out our Halloween slots section) but none quite like this.

Using famous music stars may seem a tad controversial but Nolimit City features famous people in slots such as Punk Rocker. It include the likes of Sean Connery, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Stephen Hawking and Mona Lisa.

In terms of the gameplay, it’s basically a reskinned and revamped version of the Dragon Tribe slot. Now, both offer cascading reels, xNudge Wilds that award multiplier wild reels and xWays symbols that increase the number of ways to win. In Dragon Tribe, you can benefit from up to 20,736 ways to win whilst it’s 46,656 ways to win in The Crypt.

The Resurrection Spins feature sees you play with 1 xWays symbol on each spin with every 4^th cascade transforming a high-value symbol into a Wild (as well as extra free spins). Wins with Elvis will see his multiplier increase by 1. In Dragon Tribe’s Dragon Spins feature the Extreme Mode sees a dragon symbol become a wild on every 3^rd winning cascade.

That said, the Resurrection Spins feature was a tad frustrating at times. There were plenty of dead spins (pardon the pun) and the expanding xNudge Wild would often land without contributing to a winning combination. I found that the key was to land xNudge Wilds on reels 2 and 3 along with other transformed wilds on the other reels to really get the blood pumping.

With 27,000 x bet max wins, The Crypt offers the same max win potential as Dragon Tribe. This will be won on average every 17.7 million spins in The Crypt whilst its 1 in 10 billion spins in its predecessor. That’s quite the difference. On the other hand, triggering the free spins will be harder than in Dragon Tribe.

Overall, The Crypt slot looks superb and offers something, thematically, no other provider offers at the time of writing. With proven mechanics and bonus features, the max win potential is good without being spectacular. With more ways to win and some tweaks to the free spins, a larger max win figure would have really made the game as legendary as the dead legends it features.
