Carol of the Elves Slot RTP, Details & Wager Limits
The game engine in the Carol of the Elves slot is slightly unusual. The 5×5 reel grid starts with 12 corner positions blocked. Wins deliver respins which also unblock positions. The ways to win range from 45 up to 3,125. Winners are formed by landing matching symbols on adjoining reels, starting from reel 1.
You can play Carol of the Elves at stake levels of between 10p and £150 per spin. You can run up to 1,000 autospins if required. There are options for win and loss stop limits. You can also adjust the pace of play by going into the settings tab.
The Carol of the Elves RTP is 96.2%. The hit rate of 22.8% means that you’ll land a winning combination just under a quarter of the time on average. We found the volatility to be in the medium to high range. The maximum win is 5,800 x your total stake.
Carol of the Elves Theme – Audio & Design Features – festive cracker
The design in the Carol of the Elves slot is terrific. With a Christmas theme, you’ll hear a festive tune that sounds like John William’s Somewhere in My Memory song which featured in the Home Alone film. It all comes together very nicely. There’s usually no need to worry about the design of an Yggdrasil slot and this game is up to the developer’s usual A grade standards. A big thumbs up here.
Flanked by a pair of ornately decorated Christmas trees, the reels are set within a gold frame. There you’ll find A to 9 royals alongside a quartet of animals in Christmas scarves and hats. They include a fox, a rabbit, polar bear and a reindeer. The reindeer is the most rewarding symbol with 3, 4 or 5 giving you 2, 6 or 20 x your total stake. It’s all very tastefully done.
The blend of high-class sound and visuals and simple gameplay are ideally suited to smartphone play. The Carol of the Elves mobile slot doesn’t disappoint. The imagery is super sharp, even on the small screen and the respins feature works very nicely.
Bonus Features in Carol of the Elves
There’s a simple, rather hypnotic quality to the gameplay in the Carol of the Elves slot. The game revolves around respins which in turn open up blocked positions on the game grid. Get on a run and you can bring expanding multipliers and extra lives into play too.
Each spin starts on reels that offer 45 ways to win. You’ll see that the corners of the reels are blocked. Land a winning combination and you’ll receive a Magic Star which destroy the Blockers.
Each time a Blocker is destroyed, the number of ways you can create a winning combination increases. If you manage to get on a roll of successive respins and unblock the whole of the grid, you’ll have 3,125 ways to win active:
|Initial Spin||45 ways to win|
|Respin after 1st win||125 ways to win|
|Respin after 2nd win||1,875 ways to win|
|Respin after 3rd win||3,125 ways to win|
You will need 3 consecutive respin wins to play with 3,125 ways to win. If you have a winless respin, the reels revert to their original 45 ways to win state, complete with blockers.
When you manage to unblock the whole of the reels, you can bring the Multipliers feature into play. Your first respin with the reels totally unblocked benefits from a 2x multiplier.
If you land a respin winner made up of blue, teal or green symbols, they award a Magic Star which is collected in the meter to the left of the reels. For example, a winner made up of 4 symbols would add 4 Magic Stars to the meter.
For every 5 Magic Stars collected, a multiplier increases by 1. After a winless respin, the reels go back to their original state with the multiplier reverting to 1x.
Extra Lives feature
It’s a similar process with the Extra Lives feature. When the reels are totally unblocked, you’ll receive 1 extra life. This keeps you in play following a winless respin.
Each respin win made up of orange, purple or pink symbols adds Magic Stars to the right-side meter. Collect 5 Magic Stars and 1 extra life is awarded. These award a respin after a losing spin. When you’re out of lives, you’ll go back to the standard base game set up.
Carol of the Elves Review Summary – enjoyable Christmas treat
Creating a classic Christmas-themed video slot can be a surprisingly tricky business. Yggdrasil Gaming has made a pretty good fist of it with the Carol of the Elves slot. The design is festive enough to raise the spirits without being too OTT.
The gameplay is rather repetitive but that’s no bad thing in my view. The respins come along regularly. Get on a good run there to brink the extra lives and expanding multipliers into play and there’s the potential for some top action here.
Going back to our original question the intro: is this a cracker or a turkey? I’d certainly put it in the former category rather than the latter. The potential for 5,800 x stake wins on each respin makes it stand out against other Christmas slots.
If you want festive cheer, the A Tale of Elves slot by Microgaming is recommended as it offers 20,166 x stake wins on each free spin. If you like the mechanic and gameplay, it’s identical to that used in the Valley of the Gods slot (also by Yggdrasil Gaming).
