Alchymedes is a 5 reel, 60 payline slot which is brought to you by Yggdrasil Gaming. Available to play on desktop, mobile and tablet devices from 30p to £150 per spin, it has a magical theme and is based on the Ancient Greek legend that is considered as 1 of the greatest mathematicians of all time.
The game takes you to a mad scientist’s laboratory when science was made up of magic and devil worship. Symbols on the reels include 4 potion bottles (green, blue, orange and violet). There are also 4 playing cards (A, K, Q and J). More like Frankenstein’s lab, it has a dark feel to it.
Alchymedes has 60 paylines in total with 30 of them paying left to right and the other 30 paying right to left. You form winning combinations when you get 3 or more of the same symbol lined up in sequence on a payline – starting from either reel 1 or reel 5. The wild symbol (radioactive waste) substitutes for all other symbols to help you form winning combinations more easily.
Onto the gameplay – there are no traditional bonus features as such. You need to complete levels to get different wild patterns as there are more than 15,000 of them in the game. The pattern is drawn at the start of each level and remains so until the level has been completed. Each wild symbol that lands spreads according to the drawn pattern – this is known as the Spreading Wild Pattern feature.
Each level begins with a 1x multiplier – it can increase by 1 to 5 times during each spin at random. The multiplier is then applies to the win that makes you complete the level. This means your last win in each level can be subject to a 5x multiplier. This is known as the Level Completion Multiplier feature.
Once each level is finished, the Alchemist’s scale appears – you then can choose between adding more green wild potions or red multiplier potions to the concoction. If you choose the green wild potion, it will increase the wild pattern potential. If you choose the red multiplier potion, it will increase the multiplier potential. This is known as The Alchemist’s Scales feature.
Alchymedes may sound complicated but it’s rather simple once you get spinning those reels – I like the fact that you can change between having a bigger multiplier or a better wild pattern. I found it to be a medium variance slot with big wins definitely possible from the big multipliers on offer.
Once again, Yggdrasil Gaming has produced a superb slot in Alchymedes which is different in terms of gameplay – despite no traditional free spins feature, it has a superb theme, looks great and has potential for huge wins whether you choose bigger multipliers or improve the wild pattern. I also recommend you try Super Heroes from Yggdrasil Gaming which is brilliant in its own right.
