Wizard of Oz Road to Emerald City is a 3 reel, 3 row, 9 payline slot from WMS Gaming, that is playable from 35p to £70 per spin across all devices. The 4th Wizard of Oz themed game from the software giants, make sure you follow the yellow brick road in this portrait mode game. It comes with plenty of bonus features – 7 in fact.

The game, as you’d expect from WMS, looks fantastic – it’s best played in portrait mode (looks great on a tablet or mobile device). With the yellow brick road as it’s backdrop and with all your favourite characters above the reels, you have bar, double bar and triple bar symbols. You will also find 2x Multipliers, red 7s, the Emerald City and the Wizard of Oz logo.

The latter is the most lucrative giving you 5,000 coins for 3 across a payline. The Emerald City logo is the wild and substitutes for all symbols except the Emerald, logo and 2x Multiplier. In the base game, look out for the 2x Multiplier symbol forming part of a winning combination as your outcome for that line will be doubled.

Look out for 3 or 4 Emerald scatters on any payline as this will trigger 1 of 7 bonus features. 3 Emerald scatters will give you access to the features whilst 4 will also give you a cash token of 3 times your stake. Onto the features – there’s plenty of them:

Glinda The Good Witch Booster feature – a different bonus feature is awarded with an extra cash prize or multiplier applied to the win.

Dorothy Free Spins feature – you will receive between 5 and 20 free spins. If you trigger the feature with a 4th Emerald, it will be collected with every Emerald appearing on a free spin also collected. If you collect 3, you will play another bonus feature (bar the Glinda Good Witch Booster feature).

Cowardly Lion Multipliers feature – 1 free spin is award with reel 1 containing wild multipliers of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 7x, 10x, 15 or 25x. Furthermore, the Emerald transforms into a wild for the free spin.

Scarecrow Crow Prizes feature – 1 to 3 crows can land on Scarecrow with Crow 1 giving you a cash bonus. Crow 2 will then give you a cash bonus or a multiplier. Crow 3 also gives you a multiplier. The multiplier is then applied to the sum of your cash bonuses.

Tin Man Winning Spin feature – the wild takes over reel 2 (the middle one) with spins starting with a 1x multiplier. Every Emerald increases the multiplier to 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x or 25x. The feature is also guaranteed to end with a winning spin. Basically, for every win you get with an Emerald, the multiplier increases up to 25x.

Wicked Witch Free Spins feature – the Witch wild takes over reel 1 with 3 free spins granted. If a wild, logo or Emerald symbol lands on the reels, it will turn into a persisting wild for any remaining free spins meaning they become sticky.

Toto Emerald Trails feature – you will benefit from unlimited free spins with Emerald symbols moving to the top of the screen to fill an emerald in its corresponding trail. Emeralds on reel 1 move to the left trail, Emeralds on reel 2 moving to the middle reel and Emeralds on reel 3 moving to the right trail. If you advance up the trails, you will win cash prizes. If you reach the end of a trail, you will get the prizes again on that trail! The feature only ends when you have 3 non-winning free spins.

There’s a lot to take in with Wizard of Oz Road to Emerald City but it’s quite a simple slot once you get going – I particularly like the Cowardly Lion Multipliers feature as 1 free spin can give you a multiplier up to 25x. I also like the Wicked Witch Free Spins feature as you can benefit from 3 persisting wild symbols for huge wins.

Visually superb, it’s a medium variance game that has the potential to pay out 3,571 times your total stake on each spin (or free spin). I also recommend you try Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers, also by WMS, which is 1 of my favourite slots ever.
