I rather like the design in Gemstone Mine. You might expect a slot set deep underground to be a rather dim and dingy affair. Gemstone Mine is anything but. Rather like the design, the features in Gemstone Mine are simple but nicely crafted. The best opportunities come courtesy of multipliers and free spins (where even more multipliers are up for grabs).

Multipliers

You’ll notice that there are blocked positions on reels 1 and 8 (far left and far right) and rows 7 and 8 (the bottom 2 rows). Land a winning cluster adjacent to a blocked position and it partly unblocks. Land a second winning cluster and the position fully unblocks to reveal a multiplier. After the multiplier is awarded, standard symbols can land in the unblocked position for the rest of this set of cascades.

Active multipliers are applied to all winning combinations. Land more than one multiplier and their values are added together. Multipliers can be worth 2x right up to 500x. In the base game, all positions are blocked at the start of a new spin. Things are a little different when you trigger the bonus round though.

Free Spins feature

Land 4, 5 or 6 dynamite scatters on the same spin (or set of cascades) and you’ll trigger the bonus round and with it 10, 15 or 30 free spins. The big difference between the base game and the bonus is that once a symbol position has been opened up, it remains unblocked for the remainder of the free spins.

Multipliers don’t reset either. The multiplier from each new unblocked position is added to the total win multiplier. You can check the value of the current multiplier in the meter to the left of the reels. Each win benefits from the active multiplier.

Super Stake & Feature Buy

You can double your chances of triggering the free spins round by activating Super Stake. This costs an extra 0.25x stake each spin. There’s also an option to buy the bonus round. For a fee of 100 x stake, you’ll receive 10 free spins.

Cluster pays, cascading wins, multipliers and free spins. There are plenty of slots that offer that combination of features. Stakelogic hasn’t exactly reinvented the wheel with the creation of Gemstone Mine. It’s a very polished performer though, combining classy and rather understated design with super smooth gameplay.

This is a slot that can deliver a punch or two as well courtesy of the high volatility and a maximum win of 7,500 x stake.

It might not be the most original slot, but I like what Stakelogic has done here. With it’s stylish sound and visuals, Gemstone Mine is a slot I’ll be happy to dig into again and again.
