The Toucan Wild slot is played on a 5×5 grid and has 25 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are paid by landing 3 or more matching symbols from left to right, beginning from reel 1. Only the highest win pays on each payline.

Stakes range from just 20p up to £200 per spin, thus catering to all bankrolls. Hit the coins icon next to the spin button to change your total bet. Autospins and tubo spins may also be options in your country. You will see these options by the spin button if they’re available to you.

The Toucan Wild RTP is 96.5%, which is well above the industry average and typical of many Skywind Group slots. Regarding the volatility levels, it’s in the high range and rated as 4 out of 5 by the provider.

The maximum win is 10,000 x the bet. This is, of course, very rare to land, but is achieved by landing a full screen of Wilds in either the base game or the Free Games feature.

Theme – enjoy the wildness of the rainforest

You’ll find the colourful Toucan above the reels in the rainforest. It stays there until it’s ready to swoop and cause havoc on the reels. You’ll notice the vast rainforest in the background. I can only assume it’s the Amazon rainforest as they spend their lives in the canopies of Central and South America. The soundtrack is upbeat and fits the theme well. I like the bold colours as it really enhances the overall gameplay.

On the reels, the A-10 Royals make up the lower-paying symbols. The higher-paying ones include things you might find in the rainforest  – flowers, berries, pears, dragon fruit and snakes. The snake symbol is the most rewarding standard symbol, paying 0.8, 2.4 or 6.4 x your stake for 3, 4 or 5 in combination.

There are 2 Wilds in the game, a normal Wild and a Special Wild. The latter will transform Scatter into Special Wilds in the Free Games feature. More on that in a moment.

There are 5 bonus features to enjoy in the Toucan Wild slot game. There’s a Toucan Fly By Bonus, which sees the Toucan fly down and change the symbols on the reels to potentially improve wins. There’s also a fun Free Games feature where Scatters act as Wilds. There are a few more features too that may or may not be available in your country. Let’s run you through them all, starting with the Toucan Fly By Bonus.

Toucan Fly By Bonus

You’ll notice in the screenshots in this review that the Toucan sits above the reels. It can randomly fly down once the reels stop after a spin and change the symbols on the screen. This could potentially improve any wins. The symbols would then switch to upgraded symbols, which will increase the potential win. There is also a chance that a multiplier of up to 50x will be attached to this win.

Full Screen Wilds

Wilds that completely fill the reels can happen in the base game or the Free Games feature. It will happen randomly, and it’s also important to note that it’s very rare that this will occur. However, if it does, you will be awarded the max win of 10,000 x instantly. If this happens in the Free Games feature, that feature will end regardless of whether you have free spins left or not as you’ve landed the top prize.

Free Games Feature

4 or more Scatters in the base game will trigger this bonus feature. You will start with 6 free games and all Scatters will act as Wilds and fly to different positions on every spin. If you manage to land a Scatter on the reels during the bonus round, that too will act as a Wild but will also award 1 extra free game. Simply spin away until you run out of free games.

Bonus Buy Features

Non-UK players can buy the Free Games feature for 100 x the bet. Between 4 and 15 Scatters will land on the reels at random once the bonus has been bought. There’s also a Double Chance feature that may or may not be available in your country. You will see the option to the left of the reels, and activating it will increase your base bet by 50%. This will double your chances of landing the Free Games feature.

Toucan Wild Review Summary – Wilds are the key to big wins

The Toucan Wild slot is visually great. I loved the bold and colourful look of it all, and the soundtrack isn’t too bad either. Skywind hasn’t really done a slot like this before in terms of the theme, but I guess you could say it resembles Double Jungle a little, although the graphics have come on leaps and bounds since that release back in 2017.

When you look at the 10,000 x max win potential and the above-average RTP rate of 96.5%, it’s up there competing with many leading slots. I just wish there was a bit more depth to the bonus features. It’s great that there’s not just a basic Free Spins feature, but doing a little more with the bonus features overall would have been a huge plus. This is where it’s lacking for me, although what is on offer is still good.

While testing the Toucan Wild slot thoroughly, I must admit that I didn’t trigger the Free Games feature often at all. If you’re outside the UK, buying the bonus feature might well be your best option. Overall, there’s plenty to like here, which is why I’ve given it an above-average rating.
