Theme – Audio & Design Features – will you feel the pull?

With a magnet theme, there’s a rather gritty, industrial feel to the design in Magnetz. To the side of each of the game’s 4 base game quadrants are 4 giant magnets that shunt the symbols into position.

There’s a futuristic, ambient-style soundtrack playing in the background that fits the industrial feel rather well. There are plenty of moving part here but overall, the design in Magnetz works well.

On the reels, you’ll see 6 different symbol blocks. These are of different colours and feature circle, crescent, triangle, diamond, hexagon and star symbols. The star on the red block is the most rewarding symbol. Land a minimum cluster of 5 symbols for a payout of 1 x stake. This can get as high as 200 x stake if you land a maximum 20 block cluster.

But how can you manage that on 3×4 reels? The quadrants can merge to create bigger game areas as you’ll discover in the Bonus features section.

Magnetz Bonus Features

The game engine and the features in the Magnetz slot are unorthodox and take a bit of getting used to. They can deliver plenty of action though, in the form of multiplier wilds, re-spins with sticky symbols and a free spins bonus on an expanded game grid.

Flux Re-Spin feature

In the centre of the screen, you’ll see a quartet of magnets that are 4 positions high which are attached to each of the 4 individual sets of reels. These magnets change colour each spin. If you land a winning cluster that is the same colour as its associated magnet, you’ll trigger the Flux Re-Spin feature.

The winning symbols are held and a re-spin follows. If a new matching symbol lands, it too is held and another re-spin follows. The re-spins continue as long as a new matching symbol joins the cluster, you land a Bonus symbol or you land a winning cluster and matching magnet in another quadrant.

Magnetic Merge feature

The Magnetic Merge feature triggers when you land 2 sets of winning clusters of the same colour and adjacent magnets of the same matching colour. Those game areas are then merged into a single set of reels.

This expanded game grid means it’s possible to land bigger clusters of matching symbols with payouts to match. It also boosts the possibility of landing a Flux Re-Spin.

Free Spins feature

In the middle row of the game grid you’ll see the letters BONUS. Land letter symbols that spell out the word BONUS and you’ll trigger the Free Spins feature. Each letter in the middle row that is collected is lit so you can see how close you are to triggering the feature.

You’ll then play 5 free spins on a pair of 3 reel, 9 row machines (the BONUS row is removed during this feature). The expanded game engine is in play throughout. The extra combined positions again make it easier to land winning clusters of matching symbols.

Multiplier Wild feature

The W wild symbol can come with multipliers attached. If these form part of a winning cluster, the payout will be boosted by the amount shown which can mean a 2x, 3x, 4x or even a 5x boost. This is called the Multiplier Wild feature.

Magnetz Review Summary – these magnets offer plenty of pull  

There’s a rather hypnotic quality to the gameplay here which is just what you’d hope from a slot called Magnetz. That gameplay takes a bit of getting used to though because of the unorthodox game set up and features. Demo mode is your friend until you get up to speed.

I rather enjoyed the unusual features on offer here. The key to big wins is from the multiplier wilds which can reach 5x. Grid slots aren’t for everyone. If you’re a fan and fancy trying something very different, Magnetz should fit the bill.
