Deep Descent Slot Review

Awaken your inner Jacques Cousteau and dive into the Deep Descent slot, a 5 reel game from Relax Gaming where the number of ways to win can get as high as 3,125. The theme here is a familiar one but the gameplay is rather unusual. Central to the action are respins which are triggered each time a wild symbol lands. You’ll receive between 2 and 5 respins with the wild sticky for the duration. Collect a chosen low value symbol to progress to a new level where the number of rows and potential ways to win increase. Deep Descent Slot RTP, Details & Wager Limits

The action in the Deep Descent slot starts with 5 reels, 3 rows and 243 ways to win. As you’ll discover below, it’s possible to expand the size of the game engine and with it the number of ways you can form a win. Winners are created by landing 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols or wilds in adjoining reels from left to right, starting from reel 1. The only exception is the diver. You’ll only need to land 2 of this most rewarding symbol to create a winner.

Bet levels here range from 10p to £50 per spin. Use the + and – button by the Total Bet box to adjust your stake level. Click on the 3 lines then the ‘I’ to access the paytable. All amounts are shown in cash rather than coins and change as you adjust your stake size. It’s all very simple and easy to follow.

The Deep Descent RTP is 95% which is a little on the low side. Highly volatile and classed as 5/5 by developer Relax Gaming, you’ll get a win in over a quarter of spins as the hit frequency rate is 25.66%. The maximum win is 18,814 x your total stake which is high.

Theme – Audio & Design Features – head under the waves

The simple, colourful design in the Deep Descent slot reminded me of the Wes Anderson movie, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. With an underwater theme, the main diver symbol looks more like Frenchman Jacques Cousteau than Bill Murray though.

There’s a cartoonish feel to the imagery here which is very nicely done. With oxygen tanks below and rocks above, the reels are set below the ocean waves. There’s a rather gentle, understated soundtrack playing in the background while you spin. It fits this nautical theme rather nicely.

On the blue reels, you’ll find heart, diamond, club and spade symbols. They’re joined by green, orange and goldfish. The most rewarding symbol is the diver. Land 2, 3, 4 or 5 of him in combination and you’ll receive an award equal to 1, 2, 4 or 10 x your total stake.

The wild can land on reels 2 and 4 initially (plus reel 3 when all the levels are unlocked). As well as substituting for all the standard symbols, they also award re-spins. I’ll look at these in detail below.

Sharp visuals and simple gameplay are a good combination for a slot played on a handheld device and that’s just what’s on offer here. It’s very straightforward but the Deep Descent mobile slot plays nicely.

Deep Descent Bonus Features

The 3 bonus features in Deep Descent are a little different from most slots. The main extra is the Wild Respin feature. Collecting symbols can also take you to new levels where the game engine and the potential ways to win expand.

Wild Respin feature

The Wild Respin feature is triggered each time a wild symbol lands. You’ll notice that the wild comes with a number between 2 and 5 attached. This is the number of respins that you’ll receive. The triggering wild will be locked in position for up to 5 respins.

Collection feature

On each spin, 1 of the lower value symbols is picked at random to be the collectable symbol. If this symbol makes up part of a winning combination, those symbols are added to the Collection Meter. This is known as the Collection feature.

Deep Descent Progression feature

If you fill the Meter with 7 symbols, you’ll trigger the Deep Descent Progression feature. The respins start on a machine that is 3 rows high. Fill the Collection Meter with 7 symbols and you’ll descend to the next level. Another row is added to the game grid and the number of ways to win increase. Another wild symbol is added here too. This awards another 4 respins.

If you manage to collect 21 symbols, you’ll descent even further below the waves to level 3. Once again, another wild (with 5 more respins) is added. An extra row joins the game engine too. The game grid here offers the maximum 3,125 ways to win. If you manage to collect 7 symbols without any wilds, you’ll still descend to level 2 and receive 4 respins.

Deep Descent Review Summary – a simple underwater journey

This trip below the waves is a simple one, both in terms of design and gameplay. The cartoon-style imagery in the Deep Descent slot is rather basic but very easy on the eye.

The bonus features don’t offer a huge amount of originality but the respins with sticky wilds are a decent addition. They can really come into their own when you manage to expand the reels to the maximum 3,125 ways to win size. This can lead to 18,814 x stake wins.

It won’t be to all tastes but if you like the watery theme, jump on into Deep Descent. Saying that, the RTP of 95% is much lower than other Relax Gaming slots. It feels like it’s just a shelf-filler and not much effort or thought has gone into it. They have much better games such as Money Train 2 or Top Dawg$.

If you want more underwater adventures, Razor Shark by Push Gaming is recommended and offers wins up to 85,475 x stake as well as a high 96.7% RTP rate.
