The action in the Cluster Tumble slot takes place on an 8×8 grid. At the start of each spin, you’ll only see symbols on a limited number of positions on that grid. A winning cluster is created when landing 4 or more matching symbols adjacent to one another.

You can play at bet levels of between 10p and £50 per spin. Access the paytable via the settings bar. Payout amounts are shown as cash values, relative to your current bet level.  There is also an Autoplay function in some countries (not in the UK from November 2021).

The Cluster Tumbles RTP is 96.4% which is slightly better than average. If you Buy the main feature, it increases slightly to 96.48% or 96.57% depending on which feature you choose (this is not available in the UK though).

Theme – head to an Asian fortress

The design in the Cluster Tumble slot is terrific. With an Asian adventure theme, it is set in the Himalayas. The setting consists of a backdrop of citadel walls where the reels are set within a pair of totem-filled columns.

When the game loads up, it shows Relax Gaming’s male adventurer has gone missing. He’s the character that features in Temple Tumble Megaways by the way. Then a female adventurer appears who looks quite a lot like Lara Croft with a modern touch as she sports a tattoo sleeve.

There’s a reassuring thud as the blocks drop onto the game grid as well as explosions which herald winning clusters. Combined with the adventure-style soundtrack, it creates plenty of atmosphere. The sound and visuals here, as always from Relax Gaming, are impressively done.

The reels are made up of lower value blue, green and red gemstones and 3 higher paying icons (blue Aztec chief, green scarab beetle and pink dragon). The best paying symbol is the pink dragon. Land a minimum cluster of 4 symbols and you’ll receive an award of 4 x stake. If you manage to find 40 or more matching dragon heads that prizes rises to a maximum payout of 2,000 x your total stake.

There is a W wild symbol which substitutes for all the standard symbols in a winning cluster. There are also fire and lightning blocks which I’ll look at more closely below. Finally, there’s a scatter symbol. Here’s a list of all symbols including payout information:

Cluster Tumble Bonus Features

With 5 bonus features, special fire and lightning symbols can deliver their own special extras. There’s also a free spins feature where clearing the grid can bring multipliers into play. These start at 3x but can get higher.

Cascading Wins feature

Land a winning cluster of 4 or matching symbols and the Cascading Wins feature is triggered. The adjacent positions become unblocked with new symbols added. Special Stone Block features

Keep a special eye out for the 2 Special Stone Blocks which become active when there’s a winning combination directly adjacent to them. Here’s what they offer:

• Lightning Win feature: when this is activated, it is replaced by a target symbol. This target can be any of the standard symbols. On the cascade that follows, all example of the target symbol combine to form a winning cluster. The wrinkle here is that they don’t actually have to be in a cluster formation. Any combination of 4 or more of them anywhere on the reels delivers a winning cluster.
• Fire Transform feature: once again, the Fire Transform symbol transforms into a target symbol which can be any normal symbol. On the next cascade, 1 or 2 symbol types will transform so they match the target symbol. A new payout consideration then follows with the newly transformed symbols in position.

Free Spins feature

The Free Spins feature can be triggered in 2 different ways:

• Landing 3 or more scatter symbols anywhere on the game grid on the same spin
• Unlocking all the symbol positions

Your reward here is 5 free spins. Each time a scatter symbol lands during this feature, 1 extra free spin is added to your tally. This means unlimited free spins potentially.

If you manage to unlock all the stone blocks on the game grid, you’ll receive a multiplier boost. The first time you manage it, a 3x multiplier is activated. Furthermore, you will get 3 more free spins.

If you manage to do it again the multipliers increase by multiples of 3 or 6x, 9x, 12x and beyond. Once a multiplier is active, it remains at the same level or increases. It doesn’t reset to 1x until you return to the base game.

Buy Bonus feature

In some territories (but not the UK), players will have the chance to buy your way into the Free Spins feature. This will set you back a fee of 100 x stake. The RTP increases slightly to 96.48% (from 96.4%).

You can also go for the volatile free spins. The cost of this is a whopping 200 x stake with the RTP increasing to 96.57%. Cluster Tumble Review Summary – refreshing explosive action from Relax Gaming

There’s a lot to like about the Cluster Tumble slot. Visually, it’s very well put together. The gameplay can deliver some decent action too, especially when you manage to get on a decent run and unlock more and more blocked positions.

The 20,000 x stake wins will likely come from the free spins due to the multiplier rising in multiples of 3 when you clear the grid each time. The Lightning Win and Fire Transform features are decent but are potentially a lot more lucrative during the free spins. This is because they help give you wins and clear the grid to increase the multiplier and add free spins.

Cluster Pays slots aren’t for everyone but if you like this mechanic, Cluster Tumble is one treasure hunt you won’t want to miss. If you like grid slots, my recommendation would be Jammin’ Jars 2 from Push Gaming.
