Magic Gate is a traditional Chinese themed slot from developer Red Tiger Gaming. Played using a 5 reel, 20 payline game engine it comes with plenty of features including free spins, random wilds, instant 5 of a kind wins and much else besides. Play from between 20p and £400 per spin.

The setting for magic gate is the interior of an ornate palace. This being a Chinese themed game, red and gold dominate the colour palate. Joining the lower value A to 10 symbols are a trio of gold objects as well as a special Magic Win symbol (of which more later) and the golden dragon which is the game’s wild. The visuals are typically glossy as we’ve come to expect from Red Tiger Gaming slots.

There are plenty of extras hiding behind the Magic Gate too:

  • Golden Bell Bonus feature – to trigger this, you’ll need to land 2 Bonus symbols as well as a Golden Bell. Then choose a hammer, ring the bells and in the process win stake multiplier prizes. The gold hammer awards the really big wins here.
  • Dragon Ball feature – look out for the Dragon Ball symbol. When this hits, it will turn a random selection of symbols wild.
  • Magic Win feature – this awards a special instant win cash bonus.
  • Five of a Kind feature – land the Five of a Kind symbol and you’ll be awarded an instant 5 of a kind payout for the chosen symbol.
  • Free Spins feature – land 2 Bonus symbols plus 1 Free Spins symbol to activate this round. The Magic Gate mini features hit more regularly during the free spins.

As impressive as the range of features is, we found it pretty different to trigger them. The variance here is on the high side so expect spells as dry as the Mongolian desert. The features, when they do hit, can pack a decent payout punch though. You’ll need deep pockets to play this game to its full potential though.

Easy on the eye and boasting a traditional Chinese backing track, the gameplay in Magic Gate is super smooth. The features are decent enough, we’d have just liked to have been able to trigger them a bit more regularly.

If you enjoy the Chinese theme and have plenty of patience, there could be gold hiding behind the Magic Gate. If you’re after more action, then you may prefer Golden Offer which has a similar theme and visuals but a better range of extras.
