Golden Lotus is a Chinese themed slot from Red Tiger Gaming. Optimised for desktop, tablet and mobile devices, it’s a 5 reel, 20 payline game that comes with locked wilds and a free spins bonus feature. Play from between 20p and £500 per spin.
The design in Golden Lotus is pretty simple – edged in gold, the plain white reels include playing card values that award just 4 coins for 3 10s up to 40 coins for 5 As. They’re joined by three Chinese-themed symbols – a diamond in a water leaf, a pair of koi carp and a temple. Landing 3, 4 or 5 of these on a single payline will get you 15, 30 or 75 coins.
By far the most lucrative symbol is the golden lotus flower which is the wild – as well as replacing all other symbols, it will get you a payout of 100, 400 or 800 coins for a 3, 4 or 5 symbol combination. Whenever a wild lands, it can lock in position for up to 10 spins. Look out for the magic petals which can float onto the reels and lock the wilds in position for even more spins.
Golden Lotus also comes with a Free Spins feature – to trigger it, you’ll need to land 3 of the Chinese woman symbol which is the free spins scatter. The number of free spins you’ll receive varies – I’ve had as many as 10 before. The sticky wilds are in play during the feature too. Whenever 1 lands, it will remain frozen in position for the remainder of the feature!
Like many slots from Red Tiger Gaming, triggering the feature can be a frustrating business – we lost count of the number of times we landed 2 scatters then just missed out on the third. The wait can be worthwhile though courtesy of the frozen wilds which can have a big impact in a short space of time.
The HD visuals have that glossy quality that’s found in all slots created by this developer and the soundtrack has a suitably oriental flavour. The range of features isn’t the widest but the locked wilds can certainly deliver. We’d put the variance in the medium to high range.
It may not be the most exciting slot you’ll come across but for nicely designed Chinese style action, Golden Lotus delivers. If you like sticky wilds, I recommend WMS’ Black Knight II which benefits from 3 sticky wild reels in the feature.
