Realistic Games aren’t known as one of the best developers when it comes to the design of their slots but Black Ice is rather easy on the eye – the setting is a glistening ice cave. On the reels you’ll see 6 brightly coloured gemstone symbols. The best of these standard symbols are the blue stone and red heart. Both of these pay 3.2 times your total stake if you land 5 on a payline.
The white diamond is the game’s wild – it replaces all other symbols. It also offers potentially the biggest rewards. Land 3, 4 or 5 on a single payline and your reward will be a payout of 0.8, 3.2 or 25 times your total stake.
Black Ice isn’t overloaded with features – there is a respins round that offers some very decent potential though. On every standard spin, each reel has 8 wilds spinning around it. Whenever you land a winner, those winning symbols turn into wilds.
You’ll then be awarded a respin with those extra wilds spinning around the reels. If you land a winner on that respin, then the process is repeated with more wilds brought into play. The respins (and all the lovely extra wilds) keep on coming as long as a new winning combination is created.
That’s pretty much it as far as gameplay goes. Black Ice is a very simple game but the respins with extra wilds work surprisingly well and keep the pace ticking over nicely. We went through some pretty lengthy spells without finding a win.
Get on a winning run though and the respins, with all those extra wilds, can quickly deliver some very decent action. If you like the ice feel, Playtech’s Ice Cave and ELK Studios’ Ice Wolf should appeal.
