Castle Builder is a beautifully designed and highly unusual mediaeval themed slot from Rabcat. Played using a traditional 5 reel, 15 payline game engine, this strange little slot challenges you to play master builder and create a series of castles fit for a king. Bonus prizes are awarded after completing each one – play from between 15p and £15 per spin.

Rabcat slots are usually well designed and Castle Builder is no exception – the screen is split into 2. On the right hand side are a traditional set of 5×3 reels comprising assorted kings, queens, princes and princesses, treasure chests, money pouches and locked rooms. The master builder is the game’s wild, replacing all other symbols apart from the scatter.

These symbols are joined by building materials on standard, bronze, silver or gold backdrops. These are the key to building the castle which shoot up on the left hand side of the reels. The more building materials symbols you land, the quicker the castle is constructed.

Once the castle is built, the king’s heir will move in, complete with an admirer. You’ll be given the choice of 3 – pick 1 to reveal a cash prize. The precise rewards on offer depend on what materials were used to construct the castle. If you managed to land plenty of gold building materials, the prize in the pick me round will be higher than if they castle was built solely from standard materials. After you’ve received your prize, you’ll move onto the next plot and the castle building process starts again.

Castle Builder looks a treat and has a mysterious Arabic style soundtrack in the background – it’s all rather lovely. We certainly enjoyed the castle building theme and the backstory that accompanied it. We do wonder how much longevity this slot has though. I

It’s all very nice but becomes a little repetitive after you’ve built a few of the castles. The only bonus feature to speak of is the Royal Wedding. This can deliver some big prizes if you manage to land plenty of gold and silver building materials.

If you’re looking for something very different in your slots play, then this video game hybrid offers that. The variance here is low so you’ll can expect plenty of play for your investment too. Castle Builder is certainly beautiful to look at – whether it offers enough gameplay to be a long-term hit remains to be seen. If you like more traditional slots, Forsaken Kingdom is a good fit (also by Rabcat).
