Mighty Arthur is powered by Quickspin and has 5 reels and 20 paylines. Playable from 20p to £100 a spin on desktop, mobile and tablet devices, this fantasy themed offering benefits from expanding wild symbols and random wilds which apply in the base game and Free Spins Bonus feature. Join King Arthur and his sorcerer Merlin on a quest for wild wins.
Visually, Mighty Arthur has a medieval/fantasy feel to it – set in a forest, symbols on the reels include medieval style A, K, Q, J and 10 playing cards, goblets, helmets, spellbooks, King Arthur, a beautiful red-haired queen a standard wild. The latter replaces all symbols except the Bonus scatter, Arthur Wild and Merlin Wild – it’s worth 7.5 times your stake for 5 across a payline.
Look out for the Arthur Wild symbol – when it appears on reel 3 in the base game and Free Spins Bonus feature (more on this below), it will expand to adjacent reels making them fully wild. You are then guaranteed to get a winning combination. This is known as the Arthur Expanding Symbol feature.
You also have the Merlin Random Wilds feature which also comes into play in both the base game and Free Spins Bonus feature – when the Merlin (sorcerer) wild appears on any of the 5 reels, it will generate between 2 and 6 additional wild symbols which are then added randomly on the reels. You can get Merlin on multiple reels to fill the screen up with wilds.
The main attraction is the Free Spins Bonus feature which can be played when you get the Bonus scatter symbol simultaneously on reels 1, 3 and 5 – this will reward you with 10 free spins. Unfortunately, the Bonus scatter doesn’t appear during the feature which means you cannot retrigger the feature with no more free spins to be won.
However, and as mentioned, both the Arthur and Merlin wilds can appear to give you a 3 reel Arthur wild on the middle 3 reels and up to 6 extra wilds on the reels – this can occur on each free spin. I once saw Merlin appear in the feature on reels 1, 3 and 5 which resulted in a screen full of wilds.
I really like Mighty Arthur – it looks superb for starters. The bonus features are good but don’t expect to trigger them too often. Despite that, I found it to be a medium variance offering maximum payouts of 621 times your stake on each spin. If you like the theme and something more volatile, I highly recommend WMS’ Black Knight II which offers you up to 3 sticky wild reels in the feature.
