Retro Sweets RTP, Details & Wager Limits

The Retro Sweets slot is played on a 6×9 grid and uses the Cluster Pays mechanic. Land 5 or more symbols adjacent to one another in a cluster to achieve a winning combination. Symbols that contribute to a win will be removed from the grid and all other symbols fall to the bottom. New symbols will then drop in from above to fill the empty positions and potentially form another new winning cluster. This continues until no new winners are formed.

Stakes range from just 10p up to £100 per spin, thus catering to all pockets. Hit the coins icon beside the spin button to adjust your total stake. You will have 12 pre-defined bet values to pick from. Turbo spins and up to 1,000 autospins are also possible for non-UK players.

The Retro Sweets RTP is 96.49%, which is well above the industry average. But it’s important to note here that UK casinos have 2 other RTP options they could utilise – 95.42% and 94.42%. So just make sure you’re playing the one you want before committing. 90.46 and 88.41% RTP versions have also been created for this slot but they’re only available in Germany.

The maximum win is 10,000 x the bet. This is fairly generous and sits somewhere in the middle compared to many other slots. It’s not the highest but it’s by no means the lowest in terms of maximum payout potential. Regarding the volatility, this game is in the high range.

Theme – sugar, sugar and more sugar

The action takes place inside a retro diner, with a boombox to the left of the reels and sweets to the right. The grid is very colourful, with the bright colours of each symbol making everything stand out.  There’s also a nod to Jammin’ Jars in the background. Extra points to you if you spotted it!

If you’ve played Retro Tapes before from Push Gaming, this one’s got a very similar look and feel to it. It’s actually the follow-up to it but with a different theme and some improved features. There was no real background in Retro Tapes, so it’s nice to see some visuals behind the grid in the Retro Sweets slot.

In terms of the soundtrack, it’s calming and almost sounds like it should belong with a space-themed slot. I wouldn’t say it’s very retro in my opinion. I like the little snippets of audio that they’ve added with the sweet wrappers though.

On the reels, the different coloured sweets make up standard paying symbols on the grid. The red sweet is the most rewarding, paying 1x the bet for 5 in a cluster, all the way up to 500 x the bet for 17 or more.

The game’s Wild is also the Scatter and it’s the Wild Candy symbol. There’s also a Wild Multiplier symbol that adds additional value to the Wild Candy symbols before turning into Instant Prize symbols. Wild Candy Symbol

As mentioned in the table above, this symbol substitutes for all standard paying symbols. Every Wild Candy symbol has a multiplier associated with it and it begins at 1x. When the Wild Candy symbol takes part in 1 or more winning clusters, its multiplier will increase by 1x. When there are no more winning clusters, this symbol will spin off the grid.

Wild Multiplier Symbol

This symbol is available in both the base game and the Free Spins feature. It has a multiplier value attached to it – 1x, 2x, 3x or 5x. All Wild Candy symbols in view on the grid will receive the multiplier value and then the Wild Multiplier symbol will transform into a random Instant Prize symbol, which leads us nicely on…

Instant Prizes

Instant Prize symbols are simply bet multipliers and when one lands in a cluster of at least 5 Instant Prize symbols, it will pay out a win. These symbols can land with the following values: 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, 500x or 1,000x.

What Push Gaming has done here compared to Retro Tapes is that they’ve added an Instant Prize Multiplier symbol, which is available in the base game and the Free Spins feature. It has a multiplier value attached to it of 2x, 5x or 10x, and when one lands, it will multiplier all Instant Prize symbols in view. Once that happens, it will transform into a random Instant Prize symbol.

Sweet Collector feature

When a Sweet Collector symbol lands on the grid, it will pick random paying symbols of one kind and attract them around its position, creating a cluster win. The symbol can also draw in Instant Prize symbols if there are at least 4 of them in view. The number of symbols the Sweet Collector symbols can attract ranges from 4 to 9. This symbol can also attract Wild Candy symbols.

Once a cluster is created by this symbol, the symbol will transform into the paying symbol or an Instant Prize symbol with a random value.

Free Spins feature

Land 3 or more Wild Candy symbols to trigger this bonus feature. Here’s how many free spins you could get depending on how many Wild Candy symbols land:

• 3 = 6 free spins
• 4 = 8 free spins
• 5 = 10 free spins
• 6 = 12 free spins

Any Wild Candy symbols or Instant Prize symbols from the base game will stay in the same positions and carry over into this bonus round.

As you’ll see from the screenshot above, it’s slightly different to the base game in terms of gameplay. Each empty symbol position will spin through and land on one of the following symbols:

Buy Bonus & Push Bet features

The Push Bet feature is only available to non-UK players, but it allows you to activate 1 or 2 Scatters (which are the Willd Candy symbols). This will increase your base bet by 100% or 300% respectively.

Non-UK players can also buy the Free Spins feature. The normal option with 3 Wild Candy symbols triggers it for 120 x the bet. Alternatively, you can pay 400 x the bet to land 3 Wild Candy symbols and a Wild Multiplier symbol.

Retro Sweets Slot Review Verdict  – a step up from its predecessor

I enjoyed what Retro Sweets had to offer. From a solid RTP rate of 96.49% and 10,000 x max wins to unlimited free spins and Instant Prize symbols to enhance potential wins, there’s a lot to like here.

Here’s what Push Gaming said about why they made this game:

• We were keen to explore the Retro theme further, and tried different styles, effects, and sounds to make an incredibly immersive experience.
• We have added a new symbol – the Instant Prize Multiplier – in response to Retro Tapes, which depend a lot on Wild Tapes and their multipliers. This symbol adds a lot more variety to the game as a whole and has a huge impact in the Bonus Game.
• The Sweet Collector Feature, inspired by the Magnet from Retro Tapes, was tweaked as well. we really wanted to make this feature more exciting, with it now being able to pull Wild symbols along with others. This also impacts the Bonus Game where, instead of having a limited pull zone, the Sweet Collector attracts any non-clustering Instant Prise symbols that are in view.
• Another new feature that we implemented in Retro Sweet is our Push Bet feature. We added a possibility of get a guaranteed 1 or 2 Wild Candy symbols on each base spin by increasing your bet by 2x and 4x respectively.

I can’t argue with any of that after testing the slot thoroughly. I don’t have any hit rate information from the provider, but the Free Spins feature took a while to land, so I’d assume the chances of triggering that frequently are quite low. However, I enjoyed the improvements they’ve made here, especially with the Sweet Collector feature. When the bonus feature lands, it’s a wild ride, but it’ll just take time to get to that point. Still, the base game is pretty fun.
