The theme in the Wisdom of Athena slot game is clear from the title. It’s all based on Greek mythology as Athena is an ancient Greek goddess associated with wisdom, warfare and handicraft. The reels are set in front of the steps to a Greek temple, with Athena standing to the right of the reels. The visuals are sharp and bold, and I like the animation from Athena when she unlocks one of the locked rows. It’s all quite simple but it’s effective at the same time.

The soundtrack is a mysterious one, with Athena saying some inspiring words when winners land and the sound effects adding to the overall appeal. The audio speeds up and everything is more intense and dramatic when the Free Spins feature is triggered. Again, it’s simple but effective. Pragmatic hasn’t always got the balance right in previous slots, but they’ve nailed it here in my opinion.

On the reels, different coloured icons make up the lower-paying symbols. The higher-paying ones include a scroll, a vase, a helmet and a shield. The shield symbol is the most lucrative, paying 5x for 8-9 in combination up to 50x for 15-30.

Tumble feature

After every spin, winning combinations are paid and all winning symbols are removed from the reels. Any remaining symbols fall to the bottom and the empty positions are filled by symbols coming from above. This will continue until no new winners are formed.

You never really know what you’re going to get with a Greek Mythology-themed slot. It’s either going to be great or below par as there are so many similar slots out there. Thankfully, I am pleased to tell you that the Wisdom of Athena slot game is great in my opinion. I really enjoyed testing this one thoroughly, and I have to give credit to the provider for solid visuals and a good soundtrack. It fits with the theme very well and Athena to the right of the reels is a nice addition.

You don’t just have a bog standard Free Spins feature either. The addition of the multipliers up to 500x keep things interesting and I like how the consecutive tumbles unlock positions on the top row. The 5,000 x max win potential might not be as high as some of the best UK slots, but it’s solid enough. The above-average RTP rate helps too.
