Pragmatic Play’s feline mobsters come back for a second job in The Catfather Part II. The sequel is a 5 reel, 30 payline game that comes with randomly hitting stacked wilds and a free spins bonus round. The Godfather Part II is 1 of the rare movies where the sequel is better than the original. Does The Catfather II follow suit? Let’s take a closer look.
The design in The Catfather Part II is as impressive as the original – a cat speakeasy forms the backdrop to the reels which have a decidedly blingy feel. Joining the gem encrusted A, K, Q and J letters are a kidnapped mouse and a quartet of moggie mobsters.
The dandy pooch sporting the monocle and top hat is the most rewarding symbol – land 5 on a payline and you’ll make off with a 500 coins payout. By far the most lucrative symbol is the wild which can land on any reel and substitutes for all other symbols apart from the scatter – 3, 4 or wilds in a row will get you 50, 250 or 5,000 coins.
After any winning spin, random wilds can spring onto the screen and expand to fill the entire reel on which they land. A new payout is then made with the new wilds in place.
The golden briefcase is the scatter – land 3, 4 or 5 of them anywhere on the reels and you’ll win a payout of 1, 5 or 15 times your total bet – you’ll also trigger the Free Spins feature and with it, 10 free spins. This is the case even if a random stacked wild lands over your briefcase.
During the feature, you’re guaranteed to land at least 1 random stacked wild on each free spin. Land 3 or more briefcases on the same spin during the feature and an extra 5 free spins are added to your tally of spins. There’s no limit to how many times this can happen too.
The Catfather II is entertaining, just like the original. The design impresses as usual with the action playing out to a classy, jazzy soundtrack. The first Catfather offered multipliers with its free spins. The guaranteed stacked wilds are a decent substitute here.
Yes, the theme is ridiculous – The Catfather Part II is a playable enough slot though. We slightly preferred the features in the original but there’s little to choose between the 2. If you fancy some catty, cartoon capers, The Catfather Part II offers plenty. I also recommend you try Journey to the West which is 1 of Pragmatic Play’s best titles.
