We’ve been blessed with another Irish luck slot and the overall theme is the same as many others that have been released before this one. The reels are set in the Irish countryside, with plenty of greenery in the background and rainbow rays beaming on either side of the reels. It wouldn’t be an Irish luck-themed slot without a Leprechaun standing by the reels either.

The reels are purple, with the symbols bold and colourful. However, there’s not much to shout about here as it’s all very basic. The Leprechaun moves ever so slightly and there’s a butterfly to the left of the reels that flies around. That’s about it. I am a fan of the four-leaf clovers appearing whenever winning symbols disappear from the reels. That’s a nice touch.

In terms of the soundtrack, it’s very upbeat with the sound of an accordion, a tambourine and a banjo keeping the audio very much in line with tradition. When I first loaded the Rainbow Reels slot I wasn’t expecting to see anything new, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a Seven Layers feature that reveals numerous symbols in the same position when winning combinations disappear. It’s a fantastic idea and I really like how it worked in the Free Spins feature with the Wilds. The way it works in the base game didn’t interest me in all honesty as positions just turn blank after 7 layers.

The 5,000 x max win potential isn’t too bad, and the RTP rate is slightly above average. When you add the unique fixture into the mix, Rainbow Reels is a solid slot overall. What lets it down is the fact that this theme needs a fresh look and this creation certainly didn’t offer that. It’s very much the same looking Irish luck-themed game we’ve seen in many previous titles such as Rainbow Riches from Barcrest and Playtech’s Leprechaun’s Luck.
