The design in Yun Cong Long is unusual for an online slot – the reels are set against a charcoal drawing backdrop which gives the screen a very traditional feel. As you’d expect given the theme, red and gold also dominates. The lower value symbols are Chinese-style A to 9 symbols.
They’re joined by statues of fish, tortoises and dragons which award 15, 70 or 250 coins for a 3, 4 or 5 symbol combination. Most rewarding is the red phoenix which offers awards of up to 400 coins per payline (or 10 times your stake).
The best paying symbol by far is the golden dragon wild – as well as substituting for all other symbols bar the scatter, it also pays 2.5, 12.5 or 50 times your stake for 3, 4 or 5 in combination. The wild spins in stacks and can land on all 5 reels to potentially great effect.
There’s only 1 feature on offer in Yun Cong Long – the Dragon Free Games feature. As usual, it’s triggered by landing 3 scatters on the same spin – your reward is then 5 free spins, complete with extra stacks of dragon wilds. Re-triggers are possible here too if you manage to land 3 scatters during the free spins – there’s no limit to how many free spins you can win.
The visuals here may be ornate but the gameplay is incredibly simple. If you enjoy slots with plenty of extras then you’d be advised to look elsewhere. The free spins round offers some decent potential though thanks to the extra stacks of wilds and the relatively easy re-triggers. We’d put the overall variance in the medium range.
Standing out in the crowded Chinese genre is tricky – the visuals in Yun Cong Long do that, the gameplay far less so. If you enjoy the Asian theme and want a simple, well designed game then this does the trick. If you’re after something with a bit more variety, then you’ll find plenty of other more suitable alternatives. Playtech have lots of great games with Dragon Champions and Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice worthy options.
