A colourful Chinese street festival is the setting for Xuan Pu Lian Huan, an Asian-themed slot from of the Playtech conveyor belt. This one is a 5 reel, 25 payline game that comes with wilds that double payouts, a bonus round that awards up to 33 free spins (initially) with multipliers of up to 15x as well as a progressive jackpot element. Play on all devices from between 25p and £12.50 per spin.

There’s a cartoon feel to the design here – very nicely done it is too. The reels are set against a traditional Chinese street and include lower value jade playing card symbols. They’re joined by herons and pandas which pay up to 10 times your stake per payline and a tortoise which offers up to 16 times your stake. The top standard symbols are the guitar-playing monkey and the grinning tiger which award 30 times your stake if you land 5 on the same payline.

By far the most rewarding symbol is the cat hiding in the dragon costume which is the wild – land 2, 3, 4 or of these in combination and you’ll pocket 0.4, 10, 100 or 400 times your stake. Any wins that include a wild sees the payout doubled.

The main feature offering here is the Baozhu Bonus feature which is triggered by landing 3, 4 or 5 firecracker scatters. As well as a payout of 5, 20 or 500 times your total stake, you’ll also receive an initial 8 free spins with a 2x multiplier. Light 2 firecrackers and you can win even more free spins (up to 33) and multipliers which can reach a whopping 15x. The good news is that you can win an infinite amount of additional free spins.

Xuan Pu Lian Huan also offers the chance to win the Dragon Jackpot. Triggered at random, you’ll then spin a wheel. Land the same symbol 3 times to win the Mini, Minor, Major or Grand prize.

We found plenty to like in Xuan Pu Lian Huan. The colourful, cartoon design is superbly done – the Baozhu Bonus feature isn’t the easiest to trigger but the potential from the multipliers can make it worth the wait. The base game action isn’t bad either, especially if you land a winner with the doubling wild.

There’s nothing earth shattering about Xuan Pu Lian Huan. It’s all perfectly solid though and should appeal to fans of Chinese-themed slots – it’s also highly volatile. I also recommend you try Playtech’s Great Blue which has an identical free spins feature.
