The Dark Knight is powered by Playtech and has 6 reels and 50 paylines. Part of the DC Comics network, it can be played from 20p to £15 a spin across all devices. With win both ways technology, it comes with Batman and Joker Respins features as well as 3 free spins features based on The Dark Knight, Agent of Chaos and Gotham City. There’s also 4 progressive jackpots to be won!

Set in Gotham City, your role is to help The Dark Knight guard Gotham City against anarchy – based on the 2008 film, the graphics, soundtrack and animations are amazing (you’d expect nothing less from a Playtech production. With win both ways technology, symbols on the reels include A, K and Q playing cards as well as 4 characters from the movie.

You have Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), Two-Face (Aaron Eckhart), Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale). You will also The Joker which pays 35 times stake for 6 on a payline – there’s also Batman which pays a cool 75 times stake for 6 across a payline. The Batman and The Joker symbols can appear as symbol and stacked symbols. The Bat is the wild which substitutes for all symbols bar the 2 bonus symbols – it appears on reels 2 through 5.

When it comes to features, look out for Batman appearing stacked on reel 1 – when this happens, you’ll trigger the Batman Respins feature. All Batman and Bat wilds lock on the reels with a coin tossed – it will show the Batman or The Joker side of the coin. When the Batman side appears, the reels spin again – new Batman and wild symbols lock into play with the coin flipping again. When The Joker side appears, the feature ends. In total, you can get up to 8 respins.

If you see The Joker symbol appearing stacked on reel 6, you will activate The Joker Respins feature – all The Joker and wild symbols lock on the reels with a coin tossed. If The Joker appears on the coin, new The Joker/wild symbols lock in place with the coin flipping again. The Batman side will end the feature. If you get both the Batman symbol stacked on reel 1 and The Joker symbol stacked on reel 6, the first coin toss which determine which symbols locks for the respins.

Then you have The Dark Knight Free Games feature which is played then the Batman Bonus symbol appears on reels 2 and 3 – you will receive 7 free spins with Batman symbols becoming wild and locking in place for the duration of the feature. In case you’re wondering, the wild will pay like the highest value Batman symbol!

There’s also the Agent of Chaos Free Games feature which is played when The Joker Bonus symbol appears simultaneously on reels 4 and 5 – you will get 7 free spins. Here, large The Joker symbols in various symbols can appear on the reels to give you enhanced wins.

Lastly you have the Gotham City Free Games feature which is accessed when the Batman Bonus symbol appears on reels 2 and 3 as well as The Joker Bonus symbols appearing on reels 4 and 5. You will get 7 free spins with the Batman symbol being wild and locking in place. You’ll also get large The Joker symbols on the reels. If a large The Joker symbol overlaps a Batman wild, it will become wild. The 2 bonus symbols and The Joker symbol pays like the high value Batman symbol.

As part of the DC Super Heroes Jackpot network, The Dark Knight offers you the chance to win 1 of 4 progressive jackpots – when you randomly enter the jackpot game, you will from 20 jackpot icons to reveal 1 of 4 coloured jackpot symbols. You can then win the Mini, Minor, Major of Grand progressive jackpots – the latter is worth a minimum of £1 million.

The Dark Knight is a superb slot from Playtech – I love the respins features in the base game but I found the bigger wins to come with the Gotham City Free Games feature due to getting locked wilds and large The Joker symbols which pay like the high value Batman symbol. Variance wise it’s medium to high so you need to be patient – if you like the superhero theme, Playtech has plenty with Man of Steel and Batman Begins recommended.
