Superman II is a 5 reel, 25 payline progressive jackpot title powered by Playtech. Available to play on all devices from just 25p per spin, the game is based on the Superman II film which was released in 1980. Like the Superman slot by Playtech, it features some of same actors like Gene Hackman, Christopher Reeve, and Margot Kidder.

Graphically, it resembles the film of course and it set in Metropolis. Symbols on the reels include playing cards A, K, Q and J, kryptonite, Clark Kent’s glasses as well as characters Lois Lane, Non, General Zod and Ursa. Superman is the highest value symbol giving you 1,000 coins for 5 on a payline.

Like the prequel, the Superman logo is the wild and substitutes for all other symbols except the Daily Planet scatter. During the base game, the Superman Wild feature can trigger randomly – you will see Superman fly over the reels turning 2, 3 or 4 randomly chosen symbols into wilds.

When it comes to features, look out for the Daily Planet scatter appearing on reels 1, 3 and 5 as you will trigger the Daily Planet Headline Bonus feature. Here, you hit ‘Stop’ to randomly select 1 of 5 bonus features from the newspaper headlines.

The wild symbol is the Superman logo which substitutes for all symbols except the 2 scatters. The wild is important during the Save The Day Free Games feature which is played when the Free Games logo appears simultaneously on reels 1, 3 and 5.

First up is the Battle for Metropolis feature – here you take on the villains from Krypton over the rooftops of Metropolis. You pick a shield in each stage of the feature which will give you a cash bonus, special item or collect symbol. Collect obviously ends the feature – kryptonite is stored and cancels the next Collect whilst the X-Ray Vision reveals all symbols in the stage giving you the top prize.

Then there’s the Phantom Zone Free Games feature where you will get unlimited free spins. On each free spin the Phantom Zone occupies a different 2×2 sized area on the reels and acting like a wild – a different item is chosen by the Super Hero reel at the bottom of the reel set for each free spin. You can benefit from 2x and 3x multipliers with the Superman logo being stored to cancel the feature ending.

The Skyline Fight Free Games feature gives you 10 free spins with a 1x multiplier – if Superman appears anywhere on the middle reel, the free spins counter stops. Any Superman symbol that lands when the counter is frozen will increase the multiplier by 1x up to a maximum of 5x. If General Zod appears on reel 3, the villains reset the multiplier to 1x and also unfreezes the free spins counter.

Then you have the X-Ray Vision Free Games feature where you will be rewarded with 15 free spins. Any X-Ray Vision symbol anywhere on the middle reel becomes a Superman wild and adds 2 additional wilds on reels 2 and 4.

Lastly, you have the Lois & Clark Bonus feature where you pick shields until you have 5 of the same colour. There are 4 colours to collect with each colour representing a level (Lois, Clark, Lois & Clark and Lois & Superman). The Lois & Superman level is the most lucrative giving you 2,500 coins (or 50 times your stake).

Look out for the wild symbol which adds a symbol to each of the 4 levels as well as the arrow which doubles all prizes giving you a top prize of 100 times your stake potentially.

Like with Superman, Superman II is part of the DC Super Heroes Jackpot network where you can randomly win 1 of 4 progressive jackpots randomly. Once in the game, you will certainly win 1 of the jackpots. Just hope you win the Grand Jackpot which will be a minimum of £1 million.

Superman II is good slot from Playtech and is better than the sequel in my opinion – I like the range of bonus features with the Superman Wild feature being quite lucrative in the base game. My preferred feature is the Skyline Fight Free Games feature as you can benefit from 5x multipliers and a frozen free spins counter. I found the variance to be something in the middle with something for everyone – thumbs up to Playtech, once again, for another superb game.
