Satsumo’s Revenge is a 5 reel, 25 payline slot from Playtech which is playable from 25p to £500 per spin on compatible devices including laptops, PCs, smartphones and tablets. The Japanese martial arts themed offering benefits from a grandmaster that throws up to 3 Shuriken Wilds onto the reels that can transform a reel into a wild reel and added multipliers up to 3x. There’s also a Fighting Free Games feature where you go head to head with rounds of Rock, Paper, Scissors against your opponent to win free spins with sticky wilds.
With an obvious Japanese feel, Satsumo’s Revenge has cartoon style graphics and is set within a traditional Japanese Washitsu (room) – you will see the grandmaster to the right-hand side of the reel set. Symbols on the reels include colourful A, K, Q, J and 10 playing cards as well as an assortment of martial art inspired fruit each with their own characters within.
You have blueberries, cherries, limes, strawberries and satsumas. The Satsumo (the satsuma) is the most valuable symbol giving you 40 times your stake for 5 across a payline. You also have dragon wild symbol which substitutes for all symbols except the scatters to give you the best possible outcome.
There’s also a special Shuriken Wild symbol that appears only on reel 5 – when it does appear, it will trigger the Shuriken Wilds feature. The grandmaster then throws 1, 2 or 3 Shuriken wilds onto the reel set. If you get 1 Shuriken wild, it will make 1 reel fully wild.
If you get 2 Shuriken wilds, it can make 2 reels wild or increase the multiplier to 2x for the 1 wild reel. If you get 3 Shuriken wilds, you will end up with 2 wild reels (1 with a 2x multiplier), 1 wild reel with a 3x multiplier or 3 wild reels.
The other main attraction is the Fighting Free Games feature which is played when you get the scatter symbol, the berry fighter, simultaneously on reels 1 and 5 – the fighter with the red head band lands on reel 1 and the one with the blue head band lands on reel 5.
Once in the feature, you need to choose your fighter – your chosen fighter goes head to head with his opponent in several rounds of Rock, Papers, Scissors. You and your opponent begin with 5 lives each – here’s what you can win:
- If you win a round, you will be rewarded with 1 free spin and sticky wild symbol
- If you draw a round, you will be rewarded with 1 free spin
- If you lose a round, you will lose a life
You will continue to play Rock, Paper, Scissors against your opponent until either of you lose all your lives – if your opponent loses all his lives, you will get an additional free spin at the end. Remember that if you draw, you can get plenty of free spins.
The key to winning big is to get the sticky wilds early on and drawing lots of rounds after that – this will yield the biggest returns due to getting plenty of free spins with sticky wild symbols on them.
Satsumo’s Revenge is a fun and entertaining slot – I’ve had big wins from the Shuriken Wilds feature which has given me 3 wild reels before. The biggest wins will almost undoubtedly come in the Fighting Free Games feature where 4 sticky wild symbols on plenty of free spins can pay dividends.
The feature is hard to trigger and does drag on a bit but it can be worth it. I found it to be a medium variance game which is nicely balanced. I also recommend you try Ninja Fruits by Play ‘N Go which marries both fruit and martial arts elements.
