Visually, you are taken to a mystical mountain valley where a traditional pagoda dominates the backdrop. With a Chinese feel obviously, symbols including A, K, Q and J royals (in jade) as well as rabbits, roosters, pigs, goats and tigers. The latter is the most rewarding with 5 giving you 2.5 times your stake. The macaque monkey is the wild symbol and shows up only on reels 2, 3 and 4 – it replaces all symbols bar the scatter and drum.
The scatter symbol is the gong – 3 or more on any position in the base game will activate the Gong feature. 3, 4 or 5 gongs will also pay 1, 10 or 50 times your stake. You will then come across 4 gongs – pick 1 to win 6 free spins or entry to the Fire Blaze Respin feature. If you go into the free spins, the reels will not contain the low value royal symbols. You can also retrigger the feature to give you 6 more free spins.
The most important symbol is the drum bonus symbol – 6 or more in the base game will trigger the Fire Blaze Respin feature. With 3 respins awarded, the triggering drum symbols are held in position – each new one that land will five you a cash prize up to 100 times your bet or a Jackpot Star icon. If you see a Jackpot Star icon, it spins to give you 1 of 3 fixed jackpots:
- Major Jackpot = 100 times your stake
- Minor Jackpot = 25 times your stake
- Mini Jackpot = 10 times your stake
Additionally, a golden macaque symbol can land on the reels – when it does, it gives you a prize equal to the sum of all cash prizes won from the drum symbols. With each new drum, golden macaque or Jackpot Star icon, the number of respins resets to 3. If you manage to fill all positions with symbols, you’ll win the Grand Jackpot of 2,000 times your stake!
I quite like Golden Macaque – it’s the best of the Fire Blaze Jackpot slots from Playtech in my opinion. Despite the potential for small wins in the base game and free spins, I like the way it looks and the 2,000 Grand Jackpot is appealing. However, I like bigger potential wins from each base game or free spin – Playtech’s Terminator Genisys (based on the film) would be my choice.
