Fortunate 5 is powered by Playtech software and is a 5 reel, 15 payline video slot. Playable from 15p to £6 a spin, it has an obvious pirate theme as its set on a pirate ship. With realistic sounds and superb graphics, Fortunate 5 benefits from the Turbo Mode feature where you can spin those reels especially quickly.

In terms of win potential, there are 5 pirates to look out for. Each of them will give you a win if you get 3 or more of them on an active payline. The main pirate (the one with the pirate hat and parrot on his shoulder) is the most valuable one and will reward you with over 333 times your stake if you get 5 on a payline.

In the base game, there is a 2nd Chance Re-Spin feature. If you get 4 of the same pirate symbols on an active payline, the 2nd Chance Re-Spin is triggered giving you another chance to get a 5 of a kind winning combination. This feature only appears on the last (5th reel) by the way.

When it comes to bonus features, you have the Wild Waters Free Games feature where is triggered when you get 3 skull and sword scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. You will win unlimited free spins. Look out for the pirate ship symbol (the wild) as these are collected as you play the feature.

When you have 5 of them, the Wild Storm Super Spin begins – all the pirate ship symbols are then randomly distributed on the reels and freeze in place for 1 spin. I’ve managed to win over 200 times my stake on a couple of occasions now – however, don’t expect to win very often with this feature.

I found Fortunate 5 a medium to high variance game – it’s rather simple in terms of gameplay but the potential for big wins is certainly there. Graphically Playtech have produced better but Fortunate 5 does have a certain charm about it in my opinion. If you like pirate-themed slots, you have Red Flag Fleet from WMS which is very good as to is Chests of Plenty by Ash Gaming (which is now owned and operated by Playtech).
