Part of Playtech’s Geco range, Fear The Bear is rather basic. With a beautiful lake in the back drop, the reels are set on trees oddly enough. You will see A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 card suits as well as frogs, reptiles, platypuses, moles and birds on the reels. The bird is the most rewarding symbol with 5 giving you 2.5 times your stake. The koala bear is the wild and appears on the 3 middle reels – it replaces all symbols bar the scatter.
When a wild koala bear symbol appears, it climbs to the top of its reel after all wins have been paid out – they are then collected until you collect 4 above a reel. When you get 4 of them, the Wild Drop feature comes into play – the koalas then drop down over the reel for your next spin to enhance your winning potential. It could lead to 3 fully wild reels.
Then you have the Free Games feature which is played when you get 3 or more scatters – 3, 4 or 5 will give you 5, 20 or 50 times your stake as well as 10, 15 or 25 free spins respectively. With more free spins to be won giving you 50 in total, the Wild Drop feature will apply so you get plenty of wilds on each free spin.
As mentioned Fear The Bear is simple – the best winning opportunities come from the Wild Drop feature which can result in 3 wild reels on every spin or free spin. If you get 3 wild reels and top value symbol on reels 1 and 5, you will win 125 times your stake – this makes this game low variance.
Overall, Fear The Bear is different which I quite like but the maximum win potential won’t keep me coming back – if you want bigger potential wins, any of the Age of Gods series will do (from Playtech). I would try Age of the Gods: Mighty Midas or Age of the Gods: Ruler of the Seas.
