Eye of Anubis Slot Review

The pyramids of Egypt form the backdrop to the action in the Eye of Anubis slot, an ancient myth and legend themed game from Ash Gaming and Playtech. Played on an 8x8 grid, winners are formed by creating clusters of matching symbols. Successful clusters deliver cascades of symbols which keep on coming as long as the winners flow. Keep an eye out for the wild Scarab symbol which delivers expanding multipliers when it makes up part of a winning cluster. There’s also an Eye of Anubis Free Games feature that awards 6 free spins where the value of multipliers from the triggering scatters are added together and applied to all your free spin wins. Find out more in our detailed Eye of Anubis review.

Eye of Anubis Slot RTP, Details and Wager Limits

The action in the Eye of Anubis slot plays out on an 8 reel, 8 row grid with a Cluster Pays mechanic. Winning combinations are formed by landing clusters of 5 or more matching symbols or wilds. These clusters can be formed vertically and horizontally or via a combination of both. The bigger the cluster, the higher the payout.

Bet levels range from 10p to £500 per spin which even the richest Pharaoh might baulk at. To adjust, use the + and – buttons in the Total Bet box at the bottom of the screen. Paytable amounts are show in coins. Divide by 10 if you want to see how that relates to your total stake per spin.

The Eye of Anubis RTP is 95.76% which is slightly below average. High variance, the bigger wins will come in the free spins due to the multipliers. The max win is 10,000 x your total stake per spin.

Theme – Audio and Design Features – ancient Egyptian gems

In ancient Egyptian mythology, Anubis was the God of the Dead. He had the body of a man and the head of a jackal. Surprisingly, given its name, we don’t see much of the Jackal-headed god in the Eye of Anubis slot. The setting here is very familiar with the pyramids and a dusty desert forming the backdrop to the reels.

The visuals are all rather nicely done but they don’t feel particularly Egyptian. You can’t say that about the soundtrack though. The haunting score is just what we’ve come to expect from a slot with this theme.

Instead of the expected hieroglyphs, the game grid is made up of 6 different gemstone symbols. The best paying symbol is the red jewel which pays 50 x your total stake if you manage to land a cluster of 25 or more of them.

The scarab beetle is the wild. It replaces all the other symbols in winning clusters and can also deliver big multiplier boosts as you’ll discover below.

Eye of Anubis has been fully optimised for play on all devices including desktop and laptop computers, tablets and smartphones. The grid lends itself well to mobile play.

Eye of Anubis Bonus Features

With 3 bonus features, wilds that can deliver expanding multipliers are the main addition to the base game action. These can deliver potentially even bigger rewards when you trigger the free spins feature too.

Collapsing Reels feature

A Collapsing Reels feature is in play here. After a winning cluster is created, those winning symbols are blasted off the reels and new symbols drop into the vacated positions. The only exception to that is the scarab beetle wild which moves to an adjacent vacated position.

These collapses continue until there’s one where no new winning cluster is formed. It’s possible to land multiple winning clusters on the same spin or collapse. Each winning cluster creates its own collapse.

Win Multiplier feature

As mentioned above, the scarab beetle symbol is the game’s wild. As usual, this can substitute for all the standard symbols when it makes up part of a winning combination. Scarab wilds also come with an increasing multiplier.

When they first appear, they count as 1x. Other symbols are removed from the grid when a collapse takes place but the scarab wild remains in play and moves to a vacant adjacent position. If a wild forms part of a winner after a collapse, the Win Multiplier feature comes into play. The value of that multiplier increases to 2x. These increases to the value of the multiplier keep on coming as long as the scarab beetle wild is part of a winning cluster.

Eye of Anubis Free Games feature

eye-of-anubis-slot-eye-of-anubis-free-games-feature

The game’s main extra, the Eye of Anubis Free Games feature, is triggered by landing 3 scarab beetle wild symbols anywhere on the grid on the same spin. Your reward is 6 free spins.

The multipliers attached to the triggering scarab beetle wilds are added together in the Eye of Anubis above the reels. The payouts from all winning clusters formed during the free spins are boosted by the multiplier in the Eye of Anubis. You don’t need to land a wild to benefit from a multiplier during the free spins, all payouts receive the payout boost.

Land more scarab beetle wilds symbols to increase the size of the multiplier still further. The value of the wilds is added to the Eye of Anubis multiplier at the end of that series of collapses.

Eye of Anubis Review Summary – familiar theme, different gameplay

This virtual trip to the Valley of the Kings is nicely constructed. There’s plenty of potential action on offer in the Eye of Anubis slot courtesy of the cluster pays and collapsing reels mechanic.

The action can really heat up in the Eye of Anubis Free Games feature if you manage to get a good combination of scarab beetle wilds and their multipliers. This is where the bigger wins, up to 10,000 x stake, can come from. The only gripe I have is that you cannot add to your free spins tally.

With lots of grid/cluster pays slots now available, Playtech has delivered something unique and potentially rewarding with Eye of Anubis. It’s not your standard ancient Egyptian themed slot which is refreshing.

If you like Cluster Pays slots, Jammin’ Jars 2 by Push Gaming is the first game you should try. It has lots of bonus features and offers 50,000 x stake max wins. Also by Push Gaming is Booty Bay which comes with 20,000 x stake max payouts and lots of extras.

Fancy heading to ancient Egypt? Golden Glyph 2 by Quickspin offers this, a Cluster Pays mechanic, Power-Ups and 26,800 x stake payouts.
