Bombs is a Playtech-powered slot with 5 reels and 20 paylines. Available to play on desktop, mobile and tablet devices from 20p to £200 per spin, this pirate themed adventure gives you explosive bonus features on every spin. You can play with 1 or 2 ships to increase the potential for hitting those bonus features too – it comes with bonus bombs, cash bombs, multiplier bombs, wild bombs, free spins bombs, exploding bombs and mystery bombs.

With a pirate theme, Bombs is played on a 5 by 7 reel set – visually, it’s very good as the symbols/reels are floating under the ocean. With a catchy/adventure soundtrack, symbols include spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds as well as treasure maps, gold dabloons, anchors and pirate captains. The latter is the most rewarding giving you 10 times your stake for 5 on a payline. The treasure chest is the wild and replaces all symbols bar the scatter – 3, 4 or 5 will give you 2, 10 or 20 times your stake.

You will see a pirate ship above the reels – these can fire a bonus bomb on any spin. The first decision you need to make is where you play with 1 or 2 ships. Known as the Extra Ship feature, you will benefit from more bombs, more explosions and more potential wins. This costs 1.5 times your stake – you will play at 50p a spin at minimum stakes up to £500 a spin at maximum stakes.

As mentioned, a pirate ship can randomly fire a random prize bombs next to the reels – this is known as the Bonus Bombs feature. With 6 bombs possibly landing, a scatter landing on the same line as a bomb will give you the corresponding prize:

• Red Bomb – triggers a Bonus Bomb to land on the same line
• Cash Prize Bomb – gives you a random cash prize worth up to 10 times your stake
• Random Multiplier Bomb – gives you a multiplier between 2x and 10x to all wins on screen
• Random Wild Bomb – spreads up to 10 wild symbols on the screen
• Free Games Bomb – gives you 10 free spins in the free spins feature (more on this below)
• Mystery Bomb – can transform into any of the bombs highlighted above

If you get a Free Games Bombs and a scatter on the same line, you will trigger the Boombastic Free Games feature with 10 free spins awarded. On every free spin, there’s a bigger chance for a bomb to land on the reels giving you the bombs described above – this means you could benefit from multipliers up to 10x on each free spin or up to 10 wilds. You can also retrigger the feature various times with a cap of 70 free spins up for grabs.

Bombs is definitely different to other slots out there and it was time for a good pirate themed game – it looks great and is fast paced and entertaining. I like the fact you can get decent wins in the base game as well as the Boombastic Free Games feature. For me, the Random Multiplier Bomb is the most rewarding as a potential 10x multiplier is always good.

If you were to fill the reels with the high value wild symbol, you’d pocket 400 times your stake – add in the 10x multiplier and you could win 4,000 times your stake on each spin/free spin. I really like Bombs – its unconventional and has the potential for big payouts throughout. If you like the pirate theme, Quickspin’s Pirate’s Charm or Novomatic’s Red Lady are recommended.
