Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice is a Playtech powered progressive jackpot slot with 5 reels and 25 paylines – playable from 25p to £2,500 per spin on desktop, mobile and tablet devices, it comes with 5 wild symbols as well as shifting wilds in the base game. There are 2 free spins features where Batman and Superman fight on the reels to shift the loser off the reels to leave regular wilds in their path – in the other free spins feature, the Doomsday stacked wild moves 1 reel the left but Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman push the wild back the previous reel for more free spins. There’s also 4 DC Comics progressive jackpots to be won.

The slot is based on the 2016 blockbuster film who follows on from 2013’s Man of Steel (also made a slot by Playtech) – the film was the first to feature both Batman and Superman together. Visually, the game is set in Metropolis and has superb high definition graphics – symbols on the reels include Daily Planet newspapers, cameras, Granny’s Peach Tea, swords and shields, Batmobiles and kryptonite.

You will also see Lois Lane (played by Amy Adams), Alfred J. Pennyworth (played by Jeremy Irons), Lex Luthor (played by Jesse Eisenberg) and the Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice logo on the reels. The latter is the most rewarding giving you 50 times your stake for 5 across a payline.

When it comes to wild symbols, the game has 5 in total – you have the regular wild, Superman wild, Batman wild, Wonder Woman wild and stacked Doomsday wild. They also pay up to 50 times your stake for 5 on a payline. In the base game, only the regular, Batman, Superman and stacked Doomsday wilds appear.

In the base game, there’s a Shifting Wilds Symbols feature – the Superman and Batman wilds shift. If either symbol appear, they stay on the reels and shift 1 position on your next spin. The Batman wild shifts 1 position to the right with the Superman wild shifting 1 position to the left – they both carry on shifting until they either reach reel 1 (Superman) or reel 5 (Batman).

Now, when the Superman wild and Batman wild both appear on the same row in the base game (with the Batman wild left of the Superman wild), they clash and activate the Batman v Superman Free Games feature. Here, the Batman wild transforms to wear power armour – furthermore, extra regular wilds are added to the reels during the feature.

Anyway, you need to choose either Batman or Superman and then you start the feature. When a Batman wild appears on the same row as a Superman wild with the Batman wild being to the left of the Superman wild, they do battle – the losing superhero symbol shifts off the reels with regular wilds left in its path. If you choose the winning super hero, you will be rewarded with 4 extra free spins. Each battle also adds regular wilds to the reels.

The other main attraction is the Dawn of Justice Free Games feature which is played when the stacked Doomsday wild symbol lands fully on reel 3 (middle reel) in the base game. During the feature, the Doomsday wild becomes a shifting stacked wild and moves 1 reel to the left with each free spin – until it reaches the 1st reel. When it does so, it transforms into a double-stacked wild meaning it will occupy both reels 1 and 2 – the feature then ends.

However, look out for the Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman wilds landing left of the stacked Doomsday wild – this will push the Doomsday wild back to the previous reel. This basically gives you more free spins – I’ve had more than 20 as a result of the 3 super hero wilds appearing at the right times!

Finally, Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice is part of the DC Super Heroes Jackpot series meaning you can randomly win 4 progressive jackpots on each spin – once in, you need to pick from 20 cells. If you reveal all energy balls for a jackpot, you will win it – you have the Mini, Minor, Major and Grand jackpots with the latter being the most lucrative by quite some way!

Overall, I really like Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice – graphically it looks fantastic and the shifting wilds can lead to big wins in the base game and both free spins features. My favourite is the Dawn of Justice Free Games feature where you get unlimited free spins until the stacked Doomsday wild reaches reel 1.

Even if that happens, you get 2 wilds reels to give you a nice little boost as you finish up. Expect a few Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman wilds to push the Doomsday wild back though. If you like DC Comics and super heroes, I also recommend you try Justice League which has plenty of free spins features.
