Batman Begins is a 5 reel, 20 payline progressive jackpot that is brought to you by Playtech. Available to play on all devices from 20p to £200 a spin, the game is based on the 2005 film which stars Christian Bale as Batman. Your aim is to save Gotham City from the League of Shadows as you spin across 5 iconic locations – each of them offers a unique bonus feature.
With a snowy village in the backdrop, you will see Ra’s temple – symbols include icy A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 playing cards as well as characters from the film. You will see Bruce Wayne, Commissioner Gordon, Scarecrow, Ra’s Al Ghul, Ducard, Dr Jonathan Crane and Batman himself – Batman is the most lucrative symbol giving you 50 times your stake for 5 on a payline.
Batman Begins comes with 3 wild symbols – you have a regular wild (the silhouette of Gotham City with the Batman logo), an expanded wild and a special wild. They all subsitute for all other symbols to give you the best winning combination possible. When a Batman symbol lands on the hotspot (the middle row on reel 3), it will expand to take over the whole reel. As for the special wild, there is one that is unique to each of the 5 stages (Flower wild, Petrol wild, Batmobile wild, Bat-Signal wild and Microwave wild).
The game showcases 5 stages – in each stage, you will see 2 meters above the reels and a hotspot on the middle row of reel 3 (the central reel). When you fill a meter, you will be taken to the stage that corresponds to that meter. You begin in The Temple which can also be activated by landing Ra’s Al Ghul symbols on the hotspot which fills the meter in The Monorail. The Temple stage comes with a Flower wild that expands 1 reel position in 4 diagonal directions – if you land a Bruce Wayne symbol on the hotspot, you will add 1 bar to the left meter. If you land a Dr. Crane symbol, you add 1 bar to the right meter. When a meter is filled, you will move to a new stage.
You can access the Wayne Manor stage when you fill the meter in The Temple or The Batcave stage – here you will get Petrol wilds that duplicate 2 to 5 adjacent positions when they appear. Scarecrow symbols on the hotspot add 1 bar the left meter with Gordon symbols adding to the right meter.
Then you have The Batcave stage which is accessed when you get Dr. Crane symbols in The Temple or Arkham Asylum stages. You will see Batmobile wilds which give you respins with the Batmobile wild remaining sticky on the reels. During the respin, all Batmobile wilds shift 1 position the left – the respins continue until no more Batmobile wilds are on the reels. A Bruce Wayne symbol on the hotspot adds to the left meter with Gordon symbols adding to the right meter.
The Arkham Asylum stage can be played when you get Scarecrow symbols on the hotspot in the Wayne Manor or The Monorail stage. You will come across the Bat-Signal wild that can be added to a random reel on any spin and give you a multiplier of between 2x and 50x. To add to the left meter, you need to see the Gordon symbol on the hotspot whilst the Dr. Crane symbol adds to the right meter.
Finally, there’s The Monorail which can be reached when you get Gordon symbols on the hotspot in Wayne Manor, The Batcave or Arkham Asylum stages. You will play with Microwave wilds which sees the highest-paying adjacent symbol duplicated to other positions on the reels. When you get 2 or more Microwave wilds on the reels, all symbols adjacent to them with the highest value one duplicated. Look out for the Scarecrow symbol as this adds to the left meter whilst the Ra’s Al Ghul symbol adds to the right meter.
As part of the DC Super Heroes Jackpot series, Batman Begins gives you the chance to win 4 progressive jackpots, at random. On any spin, you can enter the jackpot game and pick from cells to win either the Mini, Minor, Major or Grand Jackpot. The latter is the highest value and can reach 7 figures!
Batman Begins may sound complicated but it’s rather simple once you get spinning – I quite like the Arkham Asylum stage as a win involving a Bat-Signal wild can benefit from a massive 50x multiplier. There’s also The Temple stage which can give you plenty of wilds as it expands in all 4 directions. Overall, a good slot from Playtech – saying that, I’d rather play Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice which has more to offer in my opinion.
