Merry Christmas Slot Review

Online developer Playson celebrates all things yule in Merry Christmas, a 5 reel, 21 payline slot offering payouts of up to 5,000 times your line stake. You can play from between 21p and £105 per spin. Coming with scatters, wilds, free spins, a pick me bonus game and gamble feature is Merry Christmas a cracker or a turkey? The reels are filled with brightly coloured festive symbols including snowmen, sleighs, reindeer, Christmas stockings and of course Santa. Even the playing card numbers are shaped like baubles.

The biggest paying normal symbols are Santa and Santa’s Sleigh which bother offer payouts of 2,000 times your line bet if you manage to find 5 in a line. The Party Wild is the one to really look out for though. As well as substituting for all other symbols apart from the scatter, you’ll pocket a bumper 5,000 times bet if you find 5 in a line. Find 3 or more Christmas stocking symbols and they will expand to fill an entire reel.

Merry Christmas also comes with a Free Spins feature which is activated when you hit three or more Clock Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels – you’ll be awarded 15 free spins. There are more goodies on offer throughout the round too.

There are not one but two wild symbols – Santa and Santa’s Sleigh. Find the Clock Scatters again and you’ll be awarded another 15 free spins. There’s also a special Bonus feature which is triggered when the Christmas Tree Bonus symbol appears on reels 1 and 5. You’ll then be presented with a selection of Christmas trees. Pick them and you’ll be awarded a series of multipliers. Carry on picking until you find the empty bag which brings the feature to a close.

Finally there’s a standard Gamble feature which can double a win. You’ll be presented with two boxes. Inside one is gold coins, inside the other is nothing. Up to 10 gambles are allowed. Compared to many slots from Playson, Merry Christmas is full of welcome gifts.
The variance is on the high side of medium though so don’t expect to find many presents under your tree too often. When Santa does deliver a win though, it can be a sackful of coins. The free spins is the best route to riches especially when combined with the Christmas Bonus multipliers.

The visuals are extremely bright and perhaps a little overpowering. We’d expect nothing less from a slot with a festive theme though. The same goes for the backing tracking which is fine in small doses but could become as popular as leftover turkeys on Boxing Day.

Merry Christmas is definitely more of a cracker than a turkey. And with big payouts on offer throughout the year, Christmas can definitely come early for slots fans. If you like Christmas-themed slots, Merry Xmas by Play ‘N Go is decent but if you like expanding wilds, there’s no better slot than WMS’ Black Knight II in my opinion.
