Lucky Pirates Slot Review

Adventure on the highs seas is the name of the game in Lucky Pirates, a pirate-themed slot from Playson. This buccaneering, 5 reel, 9 payline title comes with a scatter bonus, a gamble feature and of course the chance to sail away with plenty of gold coins. Stakes start at 9p per spin going up to the £45 per spin.

Lucky Pirates is all about the base game. The brightly coloured reels spin super-fast, keeping even the most ardent action junkie on their toes. That’s just as well as there is not much on offer in the way of features or bonus rounds. The only added extra is the Gamble feature which can be played after every winning spin. Predict the colour of the next card to double a payout. You can quadruple it if you manage to guess the correct suit too. Up to 10 gambles are allowed in one go.

The reels themselves are full of fruity symbols, all with an added touch of pirate-inspired glamour. Expect to see cutlass sporting plums, lemons with eyepatches and cherries wearing big hoop earrings (yes, really!) The symbol you really want to find is the bright red parrot which is by far the biggest payer.

Find 5parrots in a line and a massive payout of 5,000 times your line bet awaits. The next biggest payers are the melon and berries which offer 500x line bet for a five symbol combo. Oranges and plums pay up to 200x, with the lemons and cherries offering up to 100x.

Lucky Pirates also comes with a Wild which substitutes for everything except the scatter. The pistol-toting starfish scatter pays between 2 and 100 times stake. The visuals in Lucky Pirates are simple but effective and are set off nicely by a Hawaiian sounding backing track. It seems a little strange given the pirate theme but it’s pretty catchy and not too intrusive.

If you’re after special features, Lucky Pirates isn’t the slot for you. If you prefer old-school slots you’ll find it much more to your liking. In autoplay, mode the reels spin amazingly quickly which is great if you like fast-paced play. Given the rapid-fire action, the variance is on the high side of medium.

If these Lucky Pirates live up to their name it’s certainly possible to sail away with a galleon full of treasure. If you like pirate-themed slots, Ghost Pirates by NetEnt is pretty good but I’d play Red Flag Fleet by WMS which is a clone of the superb Zeus III.
