As online slots go, they don’t come much simpler than Aquatica. There are no multi-level games to worry about or complex bonus features that require much thought. In fact the only feature on offer are free spins and a gamble option.
The Free Spins feature is triggered when 3 pearl-bearing oyster shells appear anywhere on the reels. You’ll receive 25 free spins. It’s possible to trigger 25 further free spins should the oysters make a welcome reappearance. After every winning spin you’ll be offered the chance to gamble. Guess the colour of the next card shown and you can double your win. The gamble feature is offered up to 10 times. The yellow submarine acts as the wild and will provide a bumper payout if you find five in a payline.
The underwater kingdom created in Aquatica is nicely done. The imagery is very light-hearted. Think plasticine versions of fish you might see in the cartoon SpongeBob Squarepants. They include starfish, seahorses and other assorted aquatic creatures as well of course as the yellow submarine.
Everything is extremely bright. Bright pink, bright yellow, bright purple which is a bit of an assault on the senses. The soundtrack is largely soothing though, except for the blasts of noise which accompany a win. Mexican sounding trumpets don’t really match the feel of the rest of the game.
Simple it may be but Aquatica is pretty volatile. It’s at the high end of the variance scale offering occasional big wins rather than a steady stream of tiddlers. As slots go, we haven’t seen many that have as few features on show than Aquatica. The free spins feature keeps the action rolling along though and with maximum payouts of up to 5,000 times your stake, it’s still possible to sail away from this ocean with a boatload of coins. If you like underwater themes, Nemo’s Voyage by WMS is worth playing. However, I recommend you try Wild Hunter by Playson which is superb.
