Eastern Delights Slot Review
Eastern Delights is a beautifully designed Asian-themed video slot from Playson. It offers a good selection of features including wilds, scatters, free spins, symbol drops and symbol destroying crashes with stakes ranging from 21p to £105 per spin.
The first thing to say about Eastern Delight is that it looks an absolute treat. The peacocks, lamps, sweets and fruit that adorn the reels are beautifully drawn and packed full of intricate designs and detail. The reels are set in front of a lush garden backdrop complete with a turban-wearing elder directing operations. It’s all complemented by a hypnotic Asian-flavoured soundtrack. Top marks then for the visuals. What about the gameplay?
Eastern Delights has a 5 reel, 21 payline game engine. The biggest paying symbols in the base game are the peacock and the feast symbols which pay 1,500 times your stake apiece if you manage to find 5 in a payline. The fruits and carafe symbols can offer 750 times your stake.
The question mark is the wild symbol and substitutes for all symbols apart from the scatter and the lamp. The most interesting part of the base game is the Symbol Drop feature. All the symbols in a winning payline disappear to be replaced by the symbols directly above them on the reels. If this creates another winning payline you’ll be awarded a free spin. It’s possible to gain up to 3 extra free spins from the Symbol Drop in the base game.
Eastern Delights also has a traditional Free Spins feature which is triggered by getting 3 or more scatter symbols. Four spins are awarded at first but it’s possible to boost that number thanks to the Symbol Drop which is active during the free spins.
Watch out for the Lamp symbol on reel 5 during the free spins feature as it destroys the horizontal line on which it appears to create multiple symbol drops. It’s possible to claim up to 50 extra spins in the feature too. Eastern Delights sits quite high on the variance scale so you’ll have to manage your bankroll carefully – there’s up to 1,500 times your stake to be won though.
Playson has really upped its game with the look and feel of Eastern Delights. It’s certainly a treat for the senses. The gameplay is pretty good too. How much you enjoy it is likely to come down to what you think of the Symbol Drop feature which is the central element of the game. If you enjoy that, then Eastern Delights definitely lives up to its name. The Symbol Drop feature reminds me of the Avalanche Reels feature in NetEnt’s Gonzo’s Quest but in terms of theme, its reminiscent of Playtech’s Sultan’s Gold (both great slots).
