Theme: join the canine criminals

The theme in the Ruff Heist slot game is clear as soon as you load it. It’s all about dogs, but not just any old dogs. Canine criminals on a mission to steal a lot of money and diamonds. The reels are set in front of a British minivan, which is a little unusual but unique. The symbols are basic but I like the bold colours as it’s simple but effective. I like the stickers on the van in the background too.

In terms of the soundtrack, straight away you’re greeted by rock music and a rather unique set of lyrics. I don’t recognise the lyrics at all, so I can only imagine a band has put them together exclusively for this slot, which is great. Land the Free Spins feature and you will move inside a vault full of gold coins. The audio switches to rhythm and blues with a saxophone prominent alongside some drums. On the reels, the A-10 Royals made up of dog tags make up the lower-paying symbols. These are joined by higher-paying dog collars, pocket watches, money banks and a faberge egg, which is a poignant jewelled egg created by the jewellery firm House of Faberge.

The Faberge Egg is the most lucrative symbol, paying 0.5, 5, 20 and 200 x the bet for 2, 3, 4 or 5 in combination respectively. It’s the only symbol in the game that pays for only 2 in combinations. The rest require a minimum of 3.

Ruff Heist Review Summary: makes a change to fish

The Ruff Heist slot can be compared to games like Big Bass Bonanza and others from that series with its collection mechanics. But there are a few things that draw me to Pragmatic over Play’n GO in this regard. For starters, the RTP rate here is much lower in comparison. OK, so the max win of 5,000 x the bet is higher here, but I tested this game for a long time and couldn’t get anywhere near any big wins surprisingly. Maybe I was just unlucky but I’m just saying don’t get your hopes up.

What I did love was the soundtrack and the thought that someone put a song together exclusively for this slot. I thought it accompanied the game really well. Audio can often be hit and miss with a lot of slots but they’ve hit the mark here in my opinion.
